Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) --- His Amendment proposal to bail out bill.
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 05:07 PM by vaberella
The rich pick up the tab.

The Amendment: Proposes to raise the tax rate of the rich folk ($500,000 to $1 million a year) by raising their taxes by 10%.

If it's true there is a return, then they would get whatever return that is on their taxes. Basically these assets (mortgages) are shit...which I knew. His proposal works.

"It should be those people best able to pay for the bail out, those people who made out like bandits for the past years..." "Those people who have caused this mess to pay."

He's right.

He's raw.

I like him.

1. there should also be taxes on stock transactions
including short sales
need to make it more about investing and less about playing the market

8. Obama has already said something to that effect, but I think it's to
be a separate issue.

I loved him pointing out the obscene salaries and payouts of Paulson and the

10. This money is going to be used to up hold banks from other nations,
how can that be good for the average American who is already competing for jobs with the rest of the world ?
Isn't that one of the reasons why we are where we are today. I do believe so, I am so angry at Congress and this Adminstration I could spit at them all, yes, even Obama for letting this lie get passed. I for one am tired of being used and abused by our own system.

:grr:

12. Bernie Sanders is why people should laugh when Obama's described as the "most liberal senator"
He and Russ Feingold are two of the few worth keeping in that august body.

16. Bernie was BRILLIANT on the Senate floor today!
I watched it on CSPAN, and I was standing up and cheering.

Sanders had a huge easel, and he put giant pictures of the CEOs of the pillaged Wall St firms along with their severance packages and parachutes...one after another.
"The ones who caused the problem shoud be the ones who pay to fix it!!!"

I'm waiting for a transcript to post.

Bernie was just brilliant!

17. Hey let's not stop there. Go back to the pre-Reagan top marginal tax rates (70%!)

That's what I've been saying all along.

And take off the cap of of payroll tax for social security so that it becomes a progressive/flat tax instead of a regressive tax.
