| I just heard the DC bureau chief of Al-Jazeera predict the election.... |

I was listening to an interview with him on "As It Happens" on CBC/Radio Canada Int'l. He's travels with the Bush campaign, but was also at the Democratic Convention. He remarked at how little coverage there was of the protestors in NYC.
When asked to predict the winner of the election, he said it was hard, but he thought BUSH would win, because Kerry hadn't capitalized on the Iraq War at the convention...which is exactly what I heard MSNBC's panel...including Ron Reagan....last night. By "capitalizing" he was referring to the Kerry had really not clearly differentiated himself on Iraq.
Unfortunately, I was in the middle of reading Rashid Khalidi's "Resurrecting Empire" which takes to task the PNAC policies which Bush will be pushing for the next 4 years if he wins. Mayhem, money, death, etc. I suddenly felt VERY depressed...
If I could have one wish, it would be that the American public would be educated about the contents of Khaidis' book with regard to foreign policy and, domestically, what John Dean has to say in "Worse than Watergate." Two short but devastating books. Damned, I wish this campaign would bring this stuff to the public!

| 1. I'm always interested in that network's take on things |
|
You know with them it CANT be wishful thinking that Bush would win like it is with the media in this country.

| 2. The host also asked about the interest in the convention back |
|
in the ME given that the American networks had decided that no one was interested here... He said that there is keen interest there and that people are waiting to see what Bush says about "the future." I bet they are VERY interested in that....but I would also wager that they are skeptical as hell about anything Bush says. (and understandably so, not just because of recent events but because of all the past history outlined in Rashid Khaladi's Resurrecting Empire....which is depressing the hell out of me....)

| 3. Take it with a grain of salt. |

Al Jazeera is always somewhat negative and expecting the worst.Understanable considering where they are based. But they don't know and aren't interested about the effect the economy has had on Americans. We will vote our pocketbooks in the final anaylasis and most Americans don't even know where the ME is!
