Preview of Bush's Speech - AP
It's weird, written in past tense.

Bush to Hail Terror Fight at Convention

1 hour, 42 minutes ago Add Top Stories - AP to My Yahoo!

By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer

NEW YORK - President Bush his first term shadowed by war, was to promise on Thursday to fight terrorists "not for pride, not for power" but to keep America safe. The Republican incumbent planned to say that voters will want four more years of "steady, consistent, principled leadership."

After surrogates spent three days casting Democratic rival John Kerry as a career flip-flopper, Bush said in excerpts of his convention acceptance speech, "I am running for president with a clear and positive plan to build a safer world, and a more hopeful America."

<snip>

"This changed world can be a time of great opportunity for all Americans to earn a better living, support your family and have a rewarding career. And government must take your side," Bush was to say.

"Many of our most fundamental systems — the tax code, health coverage, pension plans, worker training — were created for the world of yesterday, not tomorrow. We will transform these systems so that all citizens are equipped, prepared and thus truly free to make your own choices and pursue your own dreams," the president was to say.

More puke-worthy stuff here:

2. Is this in code?
"............the tax code, health coverage, pension plans, worker training — were created for the world of yesterday, not tomorrow. In other words, lets get a bunch of Texas entrepynooers to start some companies that people can HIRE to rewrite everything in the tax code to gut everything related to health coverage, pension plans, worker training............

wait, we already did that.

3. ... but what he should say is...
NEW YORK - President Bush his first term shadowed by war, was to promise on Thursday to fight terrorists "not for pride, not for power" but to keep America safe. The Republican incumbent planned to say that voters will want four more years of "steady, consistent, principled leadership."

So vote for John Kerry instead of me!

"I am running for president with a clear and positive plan to build a safer world, and a more hopeful America."

... and that plan is for you to vote for John Kerry rather than me!

"This changed world can be a time of great opportunity for all Americans to earn a better living, support your family and have a rewarding career. And government must take your side," Bush was to say.

... all of this and more can be accomplished if you simply vote for my opponent, John Kerry!

4. Uh-oh......
I don't think the crazies with bandaids on their faces and elephant dicks on their head who were screaming for blood last night are going to get revved up into a frenzy tonight listening to Junior Birdman stumble through a discussion of how pension plans are going to be transformed.....

7. I heard...
That they are deliberately not going to be specific about any "plans" to insulate themselves from a Kerry attack. Well, attack them on the lack of specifics then!

To the Justice system, the tax code, the environment...

Next up, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights!

Oh, wait, they did that too...

How can they fuck us, let me count the ways....

11. That's actually pretty creepy.
"... he was to say." "... Bush was to say." "... the President was to say."

It sounds like they're writing a damned obituary.
