I think I've got it....they are going for the Sympathy vote!

After hearing about the Couric interview magazine and newspaper fiasco, watching the video of McCain's near meltdown in Iowa, it could be that they think that their hail Mary pass is to hope that enough voters feel bad for them (poor old POW war hero ganged up on McCain, poor old picked on six pack Joe soccer mom Sarah) that it will turn this thing around (goodness knows, the media seems to be willing to play it that way - anything to keep it appearing to be close enough so that people continue to watch, so they can sell their ads).

Quite a strategy there, GOP - they got me shakin' in my boots (NOT!)
