Obama offering some MAJOR leadership on the bail-out today
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 12:47 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Has now made a commitment to actively Sell passage of the bill. Taking ownership, and doing an excellent job of it. (Speaking at rally in Reno)
* Framed as rescue, not 'bail-out'

* Situation affects everyone in America

* Needed to prevent small business lay-offs and missed pay-rolls

* Not a hand-out to wall street millionaires

* Suggests raising FDIC insurance ceiling to 250K

* Emphasizing that loss of 700 Billion is highly unlikely and that break-even or profit are distinct possibilities.
That selling job should have been done by House leadership a week ago, but better late than never.

Meanwhile, McCain is running ads about what crap the bill is, while pretending to work for passage.

1. Obama needs to call Hillary and get on the band wagon with her
She is calling for the HOLC to be put back into place so that home owners are given better conditions on their homes rather then lose them or go into bankruptcy.

Go Hillary !!!

:grr:

15. well, it isn't just Bush
....but works with many Republicans. Split screen, with the speaker and the DOW both visible, and the DOW is sinking as the speaker talks. That's the pie-hole effect.

5. That's precisely the message we need. Too many of the middle class
are getting the idea that they won't be affected; I've seen it posted here way too much.

It's going to hurt, but we'll make it with a smart crew at the helm.

8. I liked his pledge
to go over it with a fine-tooth comb when he takes office and change anything that's not working for the benefit of the taxpayers.

It's reassuring to me. If the plan was a poison pill designed to sink him when he took office, why would he be out there advocating its passage. Either we trust him or we don't.

and force you to watch eight consecutive Super Bowls featuring the Buffalo Bills and the Minnesota Vikings.

We don't know he's going to be President--I feel like Josh Lyman of "The West Wing" right now.

19. That's why I thought the bill should go forward. The adults will take charge in January;
that would be a mighty fine "honeymoon" overhaul to oversee.

10. Watch McCopycat come out soon and make the same points while he's "working" toward a bailout.
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 12:48 PM by ClarkUSA
He's already copied Obama's idea about raising the FDIC insurance ceiling to $250K this morning.

Does McGramps have a single original policy point to make on this issue? :eyes:

This is fine and all, but I'm underwhelmed, if this is all that was said. but I'll wait to see it for myself.

13. Big Media Has Been Underplaying Obama's Role - In Fact ...
Some media outlets are now selling the increase of the FDIC cap as McCain's idea even though Obama announced it this morning at 6:55 a.m., then McCain agreed two hours later.

25. This one will give insurance on $250,000 instead of $100,000 per person
per type of account.

I would like to see an explanation of that change, because it doesn't help those in the lower 50% of the income distribution directly.

21. Sounds good
I trust Obama that things are important, but things can be worked out. Bush wanted to rush so he could get a bill favorable to the wealthy and possibly help McSame's sagging campaign.
