McCain is spending the day in Iowa
Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 10:22 PM by Wolsh
Does that strike anyone as strange? Poll after poll show that Iowa is firmly behind Obama. Why would McCain waste valuable time there? Is his campaign that incompetent or is he seeing something in his internals?

McCain: Des Moines, IA; Washington, DC
Palin: Sedona, AZ (no public events)

Obama: Reno, NV
Biden: TBA

4. Yes, that is very weird. I would think Iowa is a lost cause for McCain.
If I were his campaign manager I would focus on PA,OH,FL,VA,NC,CO,NV,NH,MI,WI.

6. Definitely odd, I read a few weeks ago the 2 campaigns disagreed on if Iowa is an Obama lock yet
So apparently McCain's internal polling is showing him he at least has a slim shot there.

I don't see the logic in it though, I mean don't the Iowan's take their caucuses very seriously? McCain basically dissed them twice by ignoring their caucuses in both his presidential runs.

...about this as well.

Obama is ahead in Iowa by anywhere from 8-12 points. Furthermore, the Des Moines Register
issued a poll this month, which showed that Obama leads with Independent voters, against McCain,
by 12 points.

That's pretty significant. Also, Iowa has very strong loyalties to and deep affection for Obama, since
he won us over during the caucuses. He built an amazing ground game here, that is still running
and working hard on this election.

Like you, I see so many insurmountable obstacles for McCain to overcome here. I'm not sure what
he's doing here. Palin and McCain were in Iowa last week--in Cedar Rapids.

It's possible that these things might give McCain hope. Iowa has a large population of senior
citizens. I think we're the "grayest" state in the country. Maybe McCain thinks he can snag
a lot of that vote. Also, Bush won Iowa in 04--so maybe this gives McCain hope that those voters
would gravitate to McCain, if he lit a fire underneath them.

I also wondered if McCain was planning on stealing some votes here--turning Iowa into Ohio or something.
However, that would be a no-go. We have a very Progressive Governor (Culver) who was our Sec of State,
before he became Governor. He's very wise to the Republican ways, and has been a champion of voter's
rights and trying to make elections fair.

It's kind of a mystery though...
