Republican on Boehner's claim that Pelosi's speech caused no votes: Nonsense
Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 09:36 PM by ProSense
(The Politico) The GOP leadership line is that a speech by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) prior to the vote was overly partisan and persuaded enough Republican members to vote no that it effectively killed the bill. “I do believe that we could have gotten there today had it not been for this partisan speech that the speaker gave on the floor of the House,” said Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) after the failed vote on the bailout package. His leadership colleagues endorsed the opinion.

“To be honest, somebody finding out that Nancy Pelosi made a partisan speech? I’m shocked,” said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), a lead opponent of the bailout package, who tells the Crypt that the idea that her speech shifted votes is “nonsense.”

More Issa:

“I’m resolute in my opposition,” said Rep. Darrell Issa (R) of California. “Today we are ending the Reagan era if we vote for this, and we can’t come back and fix it next year.”

Repubs are trying desperately to hang on to the failed philosophy of deregulation.

Yeah, the GOP is in disarray.

Edited to add:

That Mean, Nasty Nancy Pelosi (made Boehner cry)

3. As a guest on Rachel Maddow's show said...
I would love to see one Republican who supported this bill but voted against it because of Pelosi's speech come forward.
