1. I guess we are all Republicans today.
Ugh. The economy is about to completely melt down, and most Democratic activists are joining the Freepi in victory cheers.

4. I know. The cheering section has absoloutely no clue when it comes to Economics
Basic Economics 101 at that.

I know it was a bad bill and we needed to get more out of it, but some of that money was and is necessary to keep our economy afloat until we have some sane policies in place in Washington with a new administration. That was what the bill was paving the way for. Now everything is in chaos and I'm not sure there is a clear direction on where this thing is headed as it spirals completely out of control.

21. Serious question
Not trying to be a jackass, but to get educated. What would be wrong with just an infusion of cash to troubled institututions to cover worker pension plans/401k's, and insurance policies?

25. Not wrong, necessarily, but poorly targeted
Ideally you want a functioning economy that allows companies some hope of covering their own obligations.

Almost and cash outlay would help somewhat, but aside from giving a little boost to whatever markets pension funds were invested in that wouldn't do a lot. The funds would be placed in the worst place to stimulate activity.

(No pension fund or insurance fund would be lining up to write mortgages in this environment, for instance.)

6. Actually it is the far right and far left who..
are joining in on the "Destroy The Economy" bandwagon.
Sorry, but the far left in America is like our NDP and Jack Layton. They are hell bent on tearing down the house rather
than repairing it.

32. You think so?
I'll admit to being very naive, but that thought hadn't crossed my mind.

He is in my 'peer group', we grew up friendly, I haven't spoken to him for several years over some vote he cast. I'll have to admit my first thought was to drop a note thanking him for this vote, second thought was to leave sleeping dogs alone. I'll have to call upon my further review option.

Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 03:13 PM by Brotherjohn
How much lower will the stock market go before it affects yours, or your loved ones, retirement? Or their banks call their loans?

I guess in a revolution, their has to be bloodshed, right?

34. What retirement?
I lost those benefits already. Loans? Investments?

If loss of their money is your definition of revolution, then they're those rich people over there and the heirs who are bleeding.

30. I'm just sick of having to hold my nose to vote for local dem politicians.
A governor that wont support Obama. A house rep that jumps on the drill baby drill / let the market collapse train. And a wannabe senator who would NEVER have been reelected Gov. if she'd tried... and whose husband accused Obama of being a drug dealer.

WHY the hell cant we get some solid, forward-thinking Democrats up here? :banghead:

29. Facts are such wonderful things.
Maybe one should ponder the fact that George W. bUsh has had this "bailout" crap on his desk dsince last year.

Maybe one should also ponder the fact that of the 5 main problems we're currently facing, the "bailout" partially addresses one of them.

Maybe one should stop and pnder all the facts, and all the options, rather than allowing George W. bUsh to again rush us into total idiocy.

Call me whatever you will; you're also calling most the world's top economists and Denis Kucinich the same. I'm proud to be in such company.

the people that want to get angry won't care that they are playing along with the right wing nut jobs on this.

I think that we should let the owners of the Titantic know exactly how we feel and let the Titantic go down now!!

Of course the passengers had nothing to do about it but who cares about that?

Yes the owners and directors are sitting high and dry in NY or on a life boat but we have to send a message!!
