LA Times has it... Palin said that "dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time"
   After percolating on the intertubes, this has hit the MSM.... lets see where this goes now.

"The Flintstones" as history?

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-palinreligion28-2008sep28,0,3643718.story?track=rss

ANCHORAGE -- Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago -- about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct -- the teacher said.

After conducting a college band and watching Palin deliver a commencement address to a small group of home-schooled students in June 1997, Wasilla resident Philip Munger said, he asked the young mayor about her religious beliefs.

Palin told him that "dinosaurs and humans walked the Earth at the same time," Munger said. When he asked her about prehistoric fossils and tracks dating back millions of years, Palin said "she had seen pictures of human footprints inside the tracks," recalled Munger, who teaches music at the University of Alaska in Anchorage and has regularly criticized Palin in recent years on his liberal political blog, called Progressive Alaska.

The idea of a "young Earth" -- that God created the Earth about 6,000 years ago, and dinosaurs and humans coexisted early on -- is a popular strain of creationism.

Quick! Send this to Gwen Ifill and ask her to ask Palin about this. Contact link ---->
Maybe if enough of us do it, she'll ask.

I wrote her and referenced the LA Times article and asked her to inquire of Govenor Palin if she thinks this 'theory' should be taught in our public schools.

This ties her into a policy issue that should scare the crap out of any family that has kids enrolled in our schools.

4. I just sent McCain this email---
Please address this issue. This is very serious. I anxiously look forward to receiving a response concerning this very important issue. I want to know if you agree with Palin that humans and dinosaurs walked on the earth at the same time and that the earth is only 6,000 years old. We, the voters, have a right to know how you feel. For all we know, you may have chosen Palin because this is something you agree with!

Palin Claimed Dinosaurs And People Coexisted
| Rachel Weiner | September 28, 2008 11:25 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The LA Times reports:
Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago -- about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct -- the teacher said.

Though in her race for governor she called for faith-based "intelligent design" to be taught along with evolution in Alaska's schools, Gov. Palin has not sought to require it, state educators say.

--------

There is also a place on the McCain website to give your opinion on the debate and, boy, did I ever.

31. Here's the part of the article that pisses me off.
It's a quote from a Repuke who served under GHW bush:

"It's legitimate to ask questions about candidates who come from a fundamentalist environment with a black-and-white worldview, and want to know how it would affect their approach on all kinds of issues," said Paul S. Boyer, a retired University of Wisconsin history professor who has written about the role of religious prophecy on public policy.

But Douglas Wead, an author and former aide to President George H.W. Bush, argues that the campaign brush fires over Palin's religious background and pastors' statements ignores or trivializes the emergence of evangelical Christianity in the American mainstream.

"Are we saying they can't participate in public life?" Wead asked.

Jeremiah Wright's preaching style is from the evangelical black church tradition. Where was this guy when Obama was being trashed for attending Wright's church? I guess it's only white Evangelicals who deserve to keep their faith and church life private.

since the earth will just replentish itself at regular intervals of say, 6000 years or so.. I mean, we can MAKE COAL and OIL since it doesn't take all that much TIME to do it.. just apply some pressure to Dinosaur Juice..

Yeah, I love how they don't believe in SCIENCE, but let one of the them need a goddamn BRAIN operation, some INTERFERON, some ANTIBIOTICS and stuff like that, and they're the first ones in the Hospital Door, pushing everyone else to the wayside..

I say if YOU don't believe in Science, they YOU should PRAY to God for your fucking Cancer to GO AWAY.. you have No Right to go to a Hospital..

They always want to both ways.. they want to hold Snowmobile Races, while dissavowing the science that made that Machine EXIST.

Formation

Geologists view crude oil and natural gas as the product of compression and heating of ancient organic materials (i.e. kerogen) over geological time. Formation of petroleum occurs from hydrocarbon pyrolysis, in a variety of mostly endothermic reactions at high temperature and/or pressure.<9> Today's oil formed from the preserved remains of prehistoric zooplankton and algae, which had settled to a sea or lake bottom in large quantities under anoxic conditions (the remains of prehistoric terrestrial plants, on the other hand, tended to form coal). Over geological time the organic matter mixed with mud, and was buried under heavy layers of sediment resulting in high levels of heat and pressure (known as diagenesis). This caused the organic matter to chemically change, first into a waxy material known as kerogen which is found in various oil shales around the world, and then with more heat into liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons in a process known as catagenesis.

Geologists often refer to the temperature range in which oil forms as an "oil window"<10>—below the minimum temperature oil remains trapped in the form of kerogen, and above the maximum temperature the oil is converted to natural gas through the process of thermal cracking. Although this temperature range is found at different depths below the surface throughout the world, a typical depth for the oil window is 4–6 km. Sometimes, oil which is formed at extreme depths may migrate and become trapped at much shallower depths than where it was formed. The Athabasca Oil Sands is one example of this.

74. Exactly.. these chemical changes CANNOT happen in a mere 6K years
the universe has RULES, and maybe God made them or not, but to ignore transmutation of carbon and the resultant fuel is a SIN in my book :)

I know all about the athabascan oil sands (actually SHALE is the operative word there), as I flew all over the North Slope in helicopters in the 70's prospecting for uranium for the Dept of Energy, wrote all about the destruction of the tundra by the oil companies, and the effects of global warming even THEN.. how many people can say that global warming may have saved their lives? I can. When our chopper crashed in ANWR we smacked into a sort of "water bed" where the permafrost had melted under the mat of grasses of the tundra.. this cushion kept our teeth from leaving their sockets and rattling around in our skulls like popcorn..

Someday, someone will see the worth of my book, THE JESUS BOLT and get it out there for the Public.. :)

The Jesus bolt is that shaft of metal that keeps all the blades from flying off the chopper, keeps everything together, and is the metaphor in the book for the universe, the ecosystems, weather systems, etc.. there may be ONE THING that holds the house of cards together, and if we lose that, there's no telling what can happen.. my little eco-Zen adventure tale is well worth the money, make a great movie too, one with a freaking MORAL..

Thanks for posting REALITY, these people are Demented :)

77. For those who care: 64 million years separate humans from dinosaurs.
65 million years ago the dinosaurs along with most all species of life on earth became extinct as a result of the meteorite that hit current-day Mexico.

Humans (and not our current flavor) appeared about 1 million years.

That's 64 million years between the two species.

Palin is a fucking disgrace.

"If God wanted us to know about the dinosaurs and all, he would have written it down...that stuff is sent from Satan to confuse us"

seriously..panhandle of Fla. when I lived there. Ft. Walton Beach to be exact.

On edit - this after having an extended conversation with her on extending orgasms for women through some weird ass method she claimed worked. Needless to say, it was a kind of whiplash conversation.
