Today, Sunday, September 28 and Monday, September 29, former Governors Bob Graham (Fla.), Jim Hodges (S.C.) and Ray Mabus (Miss.) will join Senator Bill Nelson to discuss the change we need in rural areas across Florida and the change we need in our healthcare system.

Nelson and the former Southern governors will bring Senator Obama’s message to families, farmers and small-business owners in North Florida, visiting small towns such as Jasper, Monticello and High Springs. On Monday, the trip will include a stop in Chipley, where the campaign will officially open a campaign office – the first for a Democrat in recent memory. This tour is another example of Senator Obama’s commitment to all Floridians in all communities.

Senator Obama has long believed in strong support for America’s rural families. He elaborated on his policies while campaigning in Iowa in 2007. “The dreams of rural Americans are familiar to all Americans; to make a good living, to raise a healthy and secure family, and to leave our children a future of opportunity,” Senator Obama said. “It’s time for real leadership for rural America to extend that American dream. That's the dream of opportunity that I’ve spent my life fighting for. And that's what our rural agenda will do.”

Senator Obama has stood behind that statement, supporting $2 billion for conservation and rural development in 2006 as well as the 2008 Farm Bill. Senator John McCain opposed that bill, despite it being called, “the best agriculture policy ever for Florida” by the Florida Farm Bureau. Senator Obama has also proposed a Rural Revitalization Program to attract and retain young people to teach in rural communities.

All events below are open to the media.

Good for the people in North Florida. Obama's message is spreading everywhere.
