"Obama still can't connect to white working class voters"
Nora O'Donnell.just said.

I am SO sick of this one-sided argument. It is time for the media to get off of this claim and shift the burden to where it belongs - to those voters who STILL refuse to vote for Obama, no matter what he does.

Instead of continually asking "What does Obama need to do to connect to white working class voters," it's time for them to start asking, "why are white working class voters refusing to vote for the nlack candidate and what do THEY need to do to get over their prejudices?"

3. True, but unfortunately, she's not the only one repeating this line
It's a common refrain among commentators.

4. He does appeal to non-racist white working class voters.
There is nothing he can do to connect to racist white working class voters.

6. The only reason McPOW connects with ...
white working class voters is because a subset clings to their guns and bibles, and by extension, supports McPOW (misguidedly).

7. As if Norah O'Donell could manage that feat herself...
:eyes:

If she actually met one, she'd run screaming away from him/her.

8. As Chris Rock said:
I'd vote for the man with 1 house....not the man with 13. (Not verbatim)

9. The next time they show how the white vote always goes to the Republicans in presidential elections
it'll be the first.

Gore lost the white vote by 12 points, Kerry by 17: http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/7/20/133712/519

We could run the Ajax man and we'd still lose the white vote. What was the white working class vote when Lee Atwater ran those Willie Horton ads anyway?

10. what Obama need to do
I am fed up with people saying Obama should say this or that or appear this way or that way. The man is who he is--intelligent, calm, gracious, eloquent and always in control. Let the man be who he is--that is plenty after what we've had in the White House for eight years or what, heaven forbid, McCain gets in.

14. I don't think the media will ever accept the fact
that there's a significant portion of the American electorate who would never vote for Obama simply because of the amount of melanin in his skin. The blame for why he can't "connect" with these people will always fall solely on his shoulders, no matter how unfair that is.

15. white voters
I don't think we here should spend too much time warring about what some silly talking head says. Many years ago when the dna thing was unraveled and showed that we were genially all the same and only a few genes away from monkeys and for that matter plants, this crap would go away. It has not and that is to our detriment, but we are making progress. I am not going to vote for someone based on anything but their policies being close to mine within reason. That automatically leaves out all republicans, case closed.
