edge of a knife

Thank God above that Miller did a hybrid McCarthy/Queeg on CNN and challenged Chris Matthews to a duel (and was serious)

Miller's speech was the lowest thing a politician has done in public in a generation. Like all such excesses it's a dangerous point in history. If it somehow isn't a disaster for Bush then it expands the range of acceptable subsequent discourse and puts us on the threshold of fascism. And it may not be a disaster for Bush... This moment is a test of national character.

1. I agree
I watched it and felt he was a rather compelling knuckledragger to the right audience...even on CNN...he was a dolt in my eyes but I could see him appealing to some...this is indeed scary...not in the sense of the election...but in the sense of gauging the people I share this little slice of the planet with.

2. He was shown to be goldwater nuts moments after
on both cnn and msnbc interviews. It made it appear that moments before, the convention mob was applauding a completely crazy man, like they had just been played for fools.

3. Good point. They were caught up in the moment...enraptured in
their own dogma and didn't realize they were being held spell bound by a LUNATIC!! I laughed my butt off tonight when this poor old fart let rip with tweety. That was the icing for the whole event, IMO

How embarrassing for the RNC.

4. But it's seriously creepy
how people can be mesmerized by a raving demagogue. Look at those old newsreels of Hitler, ranting insanely as huge crowds cheer. It's been said it couldn't happen here. Yeah, right.

5. I have never seen something like this happen so quickly
It was an immediate historical perspective on it, a total reversal of context.

6. Oh, absolutely on that point...

I hear that loud and clear also. I was arguing the fascist issue with a moderate one day. They shook their head and refused to believe it could happen here.

????? I told them they were being obtuse. ANYTHING can happen. Geez, who would have believed we'd even have a president like we have today or who would have believed we'd be attacked like we were on 9/11...ANYTHING can happen. Fascism didn't happen over night either...

Good call...Zelly(along with all of Bushco) was/is indicative of just how close we can come to such a scenario.
