Senator Barack Obama on Washington Mutual
Source: barackobama.com

The government-brokered sale of Washington Mutual is the latest sign of the perilous situation facing our financial system and our economy. Although Americans with deposits at Washington Mutual should rest assured that they are safe under this arrangement, the failures of our financial institutions threaten economic instability, jobs, and the incomes of American families. This is a time to rise above politics for the good of the country. We cannot risk an economic catastrophe. This is not a Democratic problem or a Republican problem – this is an American problem. Now, we must find an American solution.

7. That Lieing B*tch!
Not Obama... the manager at the WaMu I go to. Not one week ago told me not to worry about them. They had other finances to cover any problems with wall street.

"Rest Assure" she told me.

Wow. Well, closing that account tomorrow.

8. Before you blame the workers at WaMu...
...this did come about more suddenly than anyone was expecting.

In fact, if I was to don my :tinfoilhat: , I'd speculate that the Bush administration ordered this done once it looked as if the bailout might fall through -- sort of a "see what's going to happen to lots of banks if you don't give us what we want?" If there hadn't been problems with the bailout, WaMu would have been left alone to work out a sale itself.

But, man, I really don't like having my bank accounts with Chase, one of the most predatory credit-card companies around. And I don't like looking at Chase's website and seeing that their rates and fees for the type of accounts I have are a lot less favorable than what I've got now. Over the weekend, we're looking to switch to BECU, which at least is fairly safe from falling victim to "big finance" strategies that backfire on its customers.

9. Well, I can't join BECU, so what do I do?
I have two WaMu cards with no balance, but I'd love to find some place to get a credit card that is not predatory.
