Seriously.

He just wouldn't be deemed credible. I mean, actually, I was wrong and he'd have a chance in Italy but other than that he'd be derided as the joke character, the political troll that he is. He'd be lampooned by all and sundry.

That he's still likely to score - at an absolute minimum - 47% of the vote in November and could still conceivably *win* the thing is pretty fucking tragic when you think about it. It's depressing that there are so many people brainwashed beyond redemption, beyond the boundaries of common sense and of knowing what is good for them and their families.

Crazy, crazy place on a political level.

Should common sense prevail in the USA this November, I wonder if we might see a suspiciously familiar looking man (with a strangely false looking moustache & wig combo...) going by the name Giovanni McCanio burst on to the Italian political scene....

7. To be fair to France...

In 2002, Le Pen qualified for the final round but was beaten by well over 60% by Chirac, if I recall correctly. In the final reckoning, he was more Alan Keyes than John McCain. To my mind, McCain should be (he certainly deserves to be...) sagging in the polls by a similar margin and that it's so close is terribly frustrating.

Austria...you have a point...It was folly on my part because I neglected to take into consideration very small countries. :)
