We're in a Replacin' Mood tonight!

Nominations should begin at once!

I propose that Lou Dobbs be replaced with Lou Reed.

34. She won because Republican moderates couldn't deal with the nutjob the far right put up
Kansas Republicans are divided into "Mods" and "Cons". "Mods" are typically affluent and somewhat socially liberal. "Cons" are usually working class poor and very socially conservative. Sebelius won in 2002 because the Mod vote fled the party that year. She got re-elected in 2006 because she did a pretty good job in office.

35. Sebelius won because Kansas is actually a 3-party state:
Dems, far-right Repubs, and moderate Repubs.

The moderate Republicans in Kansas are in a death struggle with the far right, who currently control the party in the state, and many of the moderate Republcians crossed over to vote for Sebelius. In fact, one changed party affiliation to become her running mate, and another became a Dem to run against Phill Kline for AG. True, the new AG went down in flames over a sexual harrassment suit, but he still got Kline out of the AG office.

Sebelius won because she had the support of moderate Kansas Republicans.

(I am in Kansas, too, obviously.)

39. Our governor won because the wingnuts win primaries
The wingnuts come out in droves at the primaries and knock off the not-so crazy Republicans. Then conservative Republicans jump ship. Back in 2000 there were Kansas Republicans for Sebelius groups that popped up after wingnut/fundamentalist-back Shallenberger won the GOP nomination. In 2004, there were Republicans who vowed (and did) campaign for Dems after they lost their primaries to the nutcases.

It's a pattern, as a Kansas voter, that you should be aware of. That's why Kansas politics is so exciting. We actually get to work with the non-nutcases (and once in a while we get them to convert).

For example, back when I was working with Friends of the Kaw we became part of the RiverKeeper network and still managed to pull in a number of Republicans to work with us. Heck, we had former GOP Gov. Mike Hayden help us with fundraisers. We approached him and stressed the importance of the health of the Kaw (and other rivers in Kansas) and got him and his sportsman buddies on our side. We did the same thing when we were fighting the expansion and relocation of Hwy 59. We pulled in the conservatives in Franklin County (around Ottawa) and worked on protecting the current environment (including their farms) and they loved us.

Also, you've got to realize that the majority of the votes in Kansas come from three areas: Topeka, KC and Wichita. Those are the areas that need to work. Think about it, the two Dems Kansans have in Congress have those three areas as their constituency. The Republicans split Lawrence in half hoping to undermine Moore and help Ryun. It didn't work.

fwiw, I did the same thing you did (campaigned in Missouri) in 96 and 2000. In 2002, 2004 and 2006 I worked both states and I think the iron is really hot now in Kansas. And, with the Kansas GOP having gone completely over to the wingnuts (I think Shallenberger is still chair) it should be easier to go after Kansas now than before.

referring to an internet message board strikes me as not all there. You need to restrict your definition of what legitimately counts as a first person plural.

Biden quit it would hurt the Dems. If Palin quit it would show up McCain's judgement and he wouldn't want that. And McCAin won't quit period unless he dies.

36. To be fair, both McHoover and his trusty assistant actually SHOULD dropout
I'd love to see a coherent argument how either of the are even remotely up to the task. If these people actually loved the country they would get out of the way and settle down into a career in fundraising or maybe setup a barbecue joint if they could find someone to deal with the money and inventory.

Their states should be looking into recalls, surely these kooks aren't top shelf material, not even close.
