My Dad's reaction to McCain: Interesting.
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 03:14 PM by amitten
My Dad is a huge Obama supporter (lifelong Dem).

But, he is APPLAUDING McCain for canceling the debate. He thinks everyone in Washington should be 100% focused on the financial crisis right now.

I'm hoping this won't be the average American's response. I want McCain to be seen as a coward, not someone who has his "priorities straight".

Now I'm not sure how Obama should play this one.

1. If McCain was really focused then he would have never gone to Manhattan this week
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 03:15 PM by chimpsrsmarter
and he'd be back in DC right now instead of leaving NYC tomorrow morning. The real crisis going on here is McCain's poll numbers.

5. No president has the luxury of sticking to one thing at a time
They have to be able to juggle more than one thing at a time.

Remember health care reform in Congress during Clinton's first term? I do.

Clinton didn't get that one thing through the Congress in the first 90 days and he was considered to be a failure.

The train has already left the station.

10. tell you dad the truth
as being reported on cnn and other stations

Obama wanted to work with McCain jointly and present a unified draft of a solution to this crisis
McCain said he'd call back later
next thing Obama knows
McCain is on CNN saying he is suspending campaigning and asking for Obama to work with him.

That's how someone who cares more about votes than they do this country behaves.

13. So McCain is following Obama's lead again? McCain's rep said on MSNBC this am that
he'd be back in WA to vote on the bill if his vote was needed.

12. I also applaud McCain for cancelling the debate.
If he wants to fall off a stage, or get caught with a hooker...

why, I'd applaud that too.

15. that was also my initial reaction, then i remembered, it's 2008!
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 03:33 PM by shireen
wow! John McCain really wants to fix this problem, how dedicated!

But wait a minute, what's he really up to? This is 2008, you don't need to be physically present at Capitol Hill to participate in negotiations. There are blackberries (you have one, John, check your pockets or ask Cindy), email (ask Cindy), and video-conferencing (talk to your av/internet tech, John, your campaign should have one). And there's the old-fashioned phone and fax. You also have surrogates on-site to make sure that no back-room dealings slip past you. When a date and time for the vote is set, you can get Cindy to fly you to Dulles, hop out of the plane, hop into a limo to the Capitol, vote, and hop back in the limo to Dulles, and get Cindy to fly you back to Florida.

See? That was easy. No need to cancel the debate.
