Issues For Kerry
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 12:57 PM by TNOE
Let's brainstorm and then send this to his campaign: Americans hate losers - and with Bush's statement that the War on Terror CAN'T be won, Kerry needs to show the world that Bush truly is a LOSER.

Issues of 9/11

He needs to state that when his CIA hands him a brief entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US " that he will NOT go on vacation for the entire month and will reinforce and secure America.

Edited to add MOST IMportant Point: That he as President will not sit idlely by while 3,000 Americans are being killed, he, through his training, will launch into military mode immediately. Had Bush not sat for 7 minutes (actually 40) the AMericans in the 2nd WTC would have been and should have been evacuated and would have their lives.

He needs to say that he will have a COMPETENT Secretary who will be knowledgeable and NOT surprised about anything that terrorists may be capable of - such as hijacking airplanes and flying them into buildings even though there were numerous reports about it, a TV show about it (The Lone Gunman), etc. That his TEAM will be PREPARED for anything. He will not tolerate incompentence.

If any one on his teams fails the way that Bush Administration failed on 9/11 they will be fired immediately.

Brings to bear the larger issue of Where Is the Countability? Where is the responsibility with NO ONE losing their job over the biggest intelligence failure in US History, and yet promotions were handed out. Get that point out there.

That Bush FAILED the Country on 9/11. Had he been doing his job, 9/11 would have never happened. BIG POINT.

He will issue valid statements to the US that there is credible evidence of a terrorist plot and for everyone to remain viligent.

Get rid of the color coded (kidnegarten) system.

He needs to state that he will have policies in place that NORAD and Traffic Control will have the power to do their jobs and won't be intereferred with.

He needs to state who he will have as his Secretary of Defense (Wes Clark anyone?)

He needs to solicit Kristen Breitweister, and other 9/11 angry Widows to his team.

There's more I know - let's add, this from the top of my head.

VACATION

He needs to state that as President HE will not spend "all or part of 535 days of his presidence on vacatoin. That's 42.4 percent of his time in office. (CBS News calculated through April, 2004).

CONFLICT OF INTERESTS

Bush, Sr./Carlye Group/Bin Ladens
Cheney/Halliburton

Talk numbers - how many billions they have made since the start of this war.

IRAQ

Show the wounded, talk about the deaths, show the coffins.

JOBS
How many total jobs lost.
How many total jobs outsourced.
Unemployment Numbers.
Unemployed who have lost their benefits.

THE DEFICIT
Under Bush I
Under Clinton
Under Bush II

THESE are the issues the people are going to care about. This is what people really want to hear, even if they are in Bush's corner, they're going to HAVE to reconsider given the reality.

Please Add More Talking Points!

Guess not as many people as me think this is a good idea. Will truge along with it anyway.

1. That's pretty much all the Foreign Policy points I have.
Good list.

Should toss in some Environmental and Educational domestic issues in there.

Like: "I will revoke the 'Clean Air' bill that pollutes our air."

And "I will not leave children behind and fully fund our Public Education system."

2. Yes, great point
I know there are people here who are much more knowledgable about those issues than I am, but great idea.

3. I think education is a key issue
The rest of the nation may not agree with me.

I think a candidate can run with education as a major plank and not only win, but get some good changes for equal education in this country. And I think, the citizenry will love such a candidate/office holder.

CB Hagman's Post
I think we need to take the gloves off, people, and call the activities of the Republican Party exactly what they are. To wit,

*phoney posturing on the part of men who claim to be "warriors" (see Schwarzenegger and G.W. Bush) but know virtually nothing of war. Schwarzenegger's had experience with the make-up brush and virtually none with actual combat; his warrior experience ends when the director yells, "Cut!"

Bush is in the same mold, a dress-up commander in chief who is happy to use troops for a photo opportunity and WTC corpses for a reelection ad.

*veteran-bashing, and even within their own party. Notice how Bush had no qualms about smear campaigns against John McCain in the 2000 election. Notice how freely the GOP has smeared Air Force veteran Tom Daschle. Notice the disgraceful treatment of Max Cleland in the 2002 Senate race. Now they're doing the same to Kerry, and the media obediently prattles on about his "controversial" service.

Controversial? The Department of the Navy didn't suddenly come out and question his service; it was a GOP-financed smear. As Eleanor Clift points out in a recent column, it's pure Rove action.

We've got to call the media to account, and we've got to call the smear a smear and the phoney warrior a phoney warrior. "Anti-vet GOP" should be our mantra.

cthrumatrix post:
This freaks out the repugs. On 8/26/04 the WSJ ran a comparison of the Kerry tax plan vs shrubs (page D2).

There is a chart. For married couple with two children under age ...earning $190,000 year....THERE IS ZERO DIFFERENCE IS TAXES.

For 95% of America that earns this amount of less.... there is NO Benefit or difference.

It's in the Wall Street Journal so go tell the undecided's ....sing from the mountain top and go burst a repug brain by telling them

the truth.

(under both plans each couple would pay $30,500/year)
