How Democrats should respond to Arnold
"We heard the Governor of California refer to 'Girlie-men,' as a matter of fact it is his favorite dismissive term for his and the president's opponents. But I'd like to say to the Governor that a real man doesn't throw 300,000 poor kids off of after school programs, A real man doesn't cut medical benefits to our veterans, A real man doesn't look the other way when the poverty level in this country increases by over a million since he became president, A real man doesn't destort the truth in finding a rationale to involve his country in a war, and a real man doesn't allow a group working on his behalf slander the military record of a man who served his country in Vietnam and has the scars to prove it. Finally, a real man doesn't have to use derogatory terms like "girlie-men" to get his message across."

1. I would say
that up till his speech, I thought that * was being disingenuous about the dangers of steroids in his SOTU speech.

4. good post
"girlie men" aren't real anyway. He's living in some deluded extended comedy sketch instead of reality. Being governor and making stupid comments like that lacks gravitas. Make up your mind Ah-nold. Do you vant to be a second rate comedian or a second rate governor?

6. Funny, I said these same comments during the CA Gov elections, yet...
somehow he still won. I think a lot of Americans are just enamored by his star quality, not Arrrrnold the politician. As such, he can get away with the corny, derogative one-liners.

I wish he would terminate himself.

13. I couldn't believe he won the CA election, either. Freepers at my
workplace said he was a shoo-in, and I laughed my ass off. They got the last laugh, obviously. It was yet another indication to me that the majority of people in this country are star-struck, media-driven, emotionally-stunted dopes, and I keep getting stunned by all the brainlessness around me.

Somebody, wake me up from this nightmare!

8. Simple... Arnold is a showpiece...
Repukes want people to believe that anybody can be sucessful in this country if they are ingenious and work hard enough. They like to trot flukes like Arnold out as "proof" of this conservative philosophy. The truth of the matter is hard work does not correlate very well with economic success. The socioeconomic class you are born into is the best predictor of your future economic success.

10. His comment was a kick in the gut to working people
"To those critics who are so pessimistic about our economy, I say: Don't be economic girlie men!" This is disheartening to those who had lost jobs or are in financial straights.

THE REPUBLICAN MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO HAVE LOST JOBS AND ARE DISCOURAGED ABOUT THE ECONOMY: DON'T BE GIRLIE MEN. That will to over well in PA, OH and MI. A nice kick in the gut.

Remember, Ah-nuld is someone who spent years covering himself with baby-oil and posing nearly naked in front of other men...

14. Yes, but such complaints fall right into the whole girly man theme....
Seriously it comes off as whining which just reinforces the imagery that Arnold is presenting. While it certainly will be popular here in DU world, I wouldn't use it outside here. Far from being a cheesy line, it's an effective propaganda tool.

"Real men don't participate is such childishness" is short, sweet and doesn't reinforce the image he wants to present.

15. Poor middle america girly men
Finally a republican speaks the truth about what his party really thinks about average americans that don't make over $200,000 a year, don't benefit from cuts to estate taxes and worry about whether they will lose their retirement, health care, social security and even their jobs. I suppose this also applies to girly men who believe in fiscal responsibility and abhor the enormous deficits this president has aggressivle pursued.

He also attacks the majority of our armed forces and veterans whose families are struggling to make ends meet.

This is compassionate conservatism at its best!
