Palin Stays Vague at Town Hall
No, really? Quelle surprise!

http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/Palin_stays_vague_at_town_hall.html

Appearing at her first town hall meeting last night alongside John McCain, Sarah Palin was asked for specifics on her foreign policy background and on economic empowerment for women.

She answered with generalities to both, prompting McCain to step in and fill in the blanks.

This may be a product of her just wanting to play it safe and not formulate policy on the fly or contradict McCain's views.

For good reason.

When Palin did actually approach substance in her responses during the Grand Rapids town hall, she seemed to suggest an openness for further government intervention to ensure gender equality in the workplace -- something small-government conservatives would surely reject.

Via CBS's Scott Conroy, first on her specific foreign policy credentials:

"Well, I think because I am a Washington outsider that opponents are going to be looking for a whole lot of things that they can criticize and they can kind of beat the candidate here who chose me as his partner to kinda tear down the ticket,” Palin said. "But as for foreign policy, you know I think that I am prepared, and I know that on January 20th if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office as your president and vice president, certainly we'll be ready. I'll be ready. I have that confidence. I have that readiness and if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead. You can ask me. You can play stump the candidate if you want to. But we are ready to serve."

McCain then offered Palin’s experience in negotiating a $40 billion natural gas pipeline and serving as the commander of Alaska’s National Guard.

Shaking this up in Washington, said that twice already.

Utter bullthis.

Audience chants: WE WANT SARAH - McCain standing there (for the grammar police) looking stupid.

And apologies for the grammar infraction - it's difficult to try to type play by play of these rallies. Hopefully I don't get sentenced to Gitmo for this.

9. Her response to being asked a question about foreign policy specifics
is to say, "...if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead. You can ask me."???

ME: Waiter, I'm ready to order.

WAITER: Go ahead, sir, I am prepared.

ME: OK, I'd like to start with the salad.

WAITER: If you'd like to order something specific, go ahead. I'm ready to serve.

ME: Like I said, I'd like the salad.

WAITER: You can try to play stump the waiter if you want to, but I'm ready to serve.

ME: Just get me my fucking salad!
