What Happens After Obama Wins????
I think the "fight" goes to an entirely different level. I had actually thought that I would get some sleep in November, but I'm looking at this, and getting creeped out again.

What will it be like to have a HUGE section of the American people who despise/hate/fear/reject the President before he even swears in?

Was it like this when America elected an Irish Catholic?

1. You are getting ahead of yourself.
Obama has a way of getting folks to like him. Once he is in a position to actually get some of these folks some help, they will learn to love him.

So don't worry about the haters.....all Presidents have them. Bush had a majority of haters, after all, he did lose the popular vote and steal the election.

7. Point Taken.
We already have plenty of crazies in our midst.

I'm embarrassed to say that I probably won't stop worrying about him until his presidential popularity ratings rise to 70%. And maybe not even then. If he wins the second term by a landslide, I'll be sort of okay. And if he safely hands the Oval Office to a new president in 2017, and goes back to being a private citizen who gets to watch his kids graduate from college and get married, I will breathe a sigh of relief.

It's hard to hold your breath for 8 years... Just call me chicken little.

4. We'll have a lot of work to do and some actual sacrifice
to rebuild the country.

"What will it be like to have a HUGE section of the American people who despise/hate/fear/reject the President before he even swears in?"

You've seen it for the past 16 years. Lots hated Bubba with an evil passion and a great many of us have been outraged at our appointed chimp. As far as I'm concerned Big Dawg is still technically President in exile (joined by Gore and Kerry).

5. For one thing, we triple the size of the secret service and build an Obamamobile for him to travel
safely. Something the size of a... well, the biggest tank in the world.

The Landkreuzer P. 1500 Monster was a preprototype ultraheavy tank meant as a mobile platform for the Krupp 800mm Schwerer Gustav artillery piece, in fact, a mobile grand cannon.

If completed it would have easily surpassed the Panzer VIII Maus, and even the extremely large Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte in size, though it would only have enough power to reach up to speeds of 10-15 kph.

It would have been 42 m (138 ft) long, would have weighed 2500 tonnes, with a 250 mm hull front armor, 4 MAN U-boat (submarine) diesel engines, and an operating crew of over 100 men.

It would have been so heavy that it would have cracked pavement behind it and it would not have been able to cross bridges.

The main armament would have been an 800 mm Dora/Schwerer Gustav K (E) railway gun 10 times bigger in diameter than modern tank cannons, and a secondary armament of two 150 mm sFH 18/1 L/30 howitzers and multiple 15 mm MG 151/15 machine guns.

It's a good thing World War II ended when it did, because if it had lasted for another two or three years, no army in the world could have withstood the immense firepower of these giant tanks.

9. Like when Bush was selected?
We haven't had a President that a large number of people liked since, well, I don't know since when. Maybe Carter. More likely Ike, I suppose.

12. Bush topped charts
Bush especially in 2004 inauguration was more disliked since Louis XIV of France.

Look at people throwing eggs. After that no one could get near him. They've had keep him in a large bubble.
Now it looks like he's almost disappeared. Have you seen or heard of him, lately?

11. Figure out something not to wring your hands about

do yourself a favor and take up needlepoint or something.

Geez, Louise, bless your heart, but some DU'ers were handwringing about the prospect of not winning 2 weeks ago.

Now, this - let's find something else to worry about when we do win?

Lord help us!

Some people just like to worry and be upset, I guess.

BTW, when Kennedy was in office people liked him, repugs or dems. Life goes on and guess what?
When the economy gets better when he's in office, people will overlook their prejudices.
Just wait and see.

13. What happens? Addressing, gingerly dismantling, hopefully resolving the tightest, gnarliest...
Gordian Knot the world may ever know: neocon republicanism. People that need a president they can love will have their opportunity. My president will be bringing down leathery dragons, ending wars, consolidating agreements favoring We The People's America, putting things back on the shelf and into the people's hands...making things right again.

14. The selfish, ignorant bloc said fuck progress and attacked nonstop after Clinton was elected.
At least that's the way I remember it.

There was no, "what's best for the nation" sentiment from the right.

There was an ever-escalating machine attack on Clinton and the party from day one, as I remember.

They turned the country inside-out over a personal indiscretion.

They condemned the Kosovo action as troops were on the ground.

They weren't about the welfare of the nation, and the people they supposedly served.

They were only about political warfare.

If Obama wins, and yeah, I don't think it is a sure thing, they will come after him the next day, and will throw whatever crap they can, with all the gusto they can muster, nonstop, for as long as he's there.

I would love to see the day come when "they" have no sway. But the sad truth is, the pendulum will sway, our way, and then back, and then our way again, and then back again, and so on.

You know what is amazing? That bush and co. kept power in 2004. They went right to Kerry's character and ridiculed his military service, as they recoiled in unison shock at Kerry's mention that Cheney's daughter is a lesbian.

Sorry, rant inducing topic.

15. Well for starters, we're going to have to organize a Free Republic patrol
We can draw straws or something, but that site will need to be monitored on a daily basis for threats toward President Obama. With that mouth breathing, knuckle dragging crowd it won't take long before one of the keyboard warriors posts something they will regret.

20. It will be the Clinton wars times ten.
This time it will be more than just the far-right wing, it will be the PUMA's, the entire Republican Party, and a fair number of people who were totally racist but not engaged, all completely dedicated to destroying Obama. It will make Scaife's millions seem like chump change.
