Tweety said something today that I actually agree with.
Background - he was saying how what is happening with the economy should help Obama/Biden, that the party in power usually is punished. He was arguing with a rw hack about this very thing.

He then said that what Obama needs is a bumpersticker slogan about the economy. (paraphrasing)
Something along the lines of "It's the economy, stupid".

I agree.

Both him and Biden have done an excellent job today going after McCain and his economic policies.
But what is needed is a zinger that everyone will remember.

Tweety was saying if Obama does this, the election will turn in his favor.

Thoughts?

3. Unfortunately, there are some -- many -- who think there can be
no improvement. Obama is perfect. His speaking skills are so immaculate that they brook no criticism whatsoever.

Personally, I think Obama needs to fire up his oratory in the style of a revival preacher. I don't mean fire-and-brimstone come to Jesus context, but style. He's not doing that. He's still appealing to the intellect, not the emotions.

And I think that's what Tweety is suggesting.

But who am I to suggest there's a flaw?

I'm just

8. I watched it
I'm not Obama's speech writer. If I were. . . . . . . .

For eight years we've had policies that have shredded consumer protections,

For eight years, Republicans like John McCain have shredded consumer protections

loosened oversight and regulation

deregulated Wall Street bankers

and encouraged outsized bonuses to CEOs while ignoring middle-class Americans," Obama said.

and given billions to CEOs while middle-class Americans get nothing.

"The result is a major threat to our economy.

They are destroying our economy.

I certainly don't blame Senator McCain for these problems,

I blame Senator McCain for these problems.

but I do fault the economic philosophy that he subscribes to.

His economic philosophy is the same as George Bush's.

It's the same philosophy we've had for the past eight years." The crowd booed with enthusiasm when Obama cued them with,

"How many have felt prosperity trickling down here in Pueblo?"

Has prosperity trickled down here in Pueblo?

It's a matter of punching it up. Making the statements tighter, more pointed, more assertive. Getting rid of softly rounded edges. "Policies" didn't shred investor protections; John McCain and the Republicans did. It's not a matter of "feeling" prosperity trickle down; it's whether it really has or not.

This was a small snip of the speech as posted alongside the video at the link.
