Question about DU...?
Got your attention? Good.

Old-timers here: howcum I see names I've never seen before making posts and their post count is over 1000? It's not like I don't read this stuff....and every day I see someone with 1000+ posts and I swear to God I've never ever seen their name before. Not once...and I've got an eidetic memory which works well for me in my day to day existence.

I'm not questioning the veracity or sincerity of the posters, but how does this happen?

(National) Enquiring minds want to know!

1. Er... there's 150,000 DUers, and hundreds of forums. You really expect to be up on all of them?

7. I have always wondered, is that count at the top of the page current
accounts? Or inclusive of all that have ever registered, including those that have been TSd?

2. They could spend a lot of time in forums you're not
looking at, some of which don't show up on the main page. If you look at their profile you can see the "join" date. That would give you a better idea.

there is no way we still have all those members...the vast number haven't posted since the year 1.

5. That is kind of interesting.
It took me a rather long time to get to 1000. I would be interested in what Skinner says about the numbers.

6. I'm probably not recognized by most 'Old-timers' ...
And I've got 1000+ posts. I try to fly under the radar. Unless I've had a couple of g&t's ... then I tend toward obnoxious.

8. It is not difficult to accumulate 1000+ posts in just a few weeks.
I am new member for only 1 month and I already have 620+ posts and I only post evening and weekdays.

I have been here less than a year. It's amazing how quickly 1000 posts accumulate.

I've seen your posts around...maybe it's just I who's a bit unsettled and paranoid.

sorry for the disruption...

I have put out over 300 posts in two weeks, I am that enthusiastic about the Obama campaign!

14. i was not attacking anyone...
I was just amazed at how fast all these posters got to 1000 and how long it took me and I was posting quite a bit in the beginning...and that so many names were utterly unfamiliar to me.

just remarking upon a perception...

18. I'm the mother of a long-time (2001) DUer, as well.
And most of the time I lurk. And sometimes I just "kick" or have only a few words to say. Any lengthy posts of mine are in our Ohio forum.

15. I'm not usually around much after 7:00 p.m.
and there are unfamiliar names to me when I am on after 7:00. Maybe people are only on during certain hours and you don't catch them

16. It took me years to get to 1000, but pros blog the other forums
They'll blog in the other sections and seek out dialog which can quickly up the thread counts.

Then they return to GD--P and write their discouraging threads, if they are part of the RNC team with the objective of demoralizing the Democrats. Complaining that their candidate or the Democrats in general don't fight back, never mind that their news clips are shut out of network news.

Yes, Obama held a town hall in Peoria is reported. But his hard hitting comments don't get the airtime. Instead we sometimes get Sitcom Sarah or McAricept in a clip saying "Obama will raise your taxes."

((Yes, there are too many "go along to get along" Democrats, but some good ones and good Republicans who have switched to Obama this year, don't get much coverage when the Republican owned TV media are so determined to push the clearly unwell John Sidney McCain III upon us, with his fundamentalist extremist VP candidate.))

17. In my case, I got busy after the primaries and left for several months
Probably happens with a lot of DU'ers, they take a break or they've been here so long that they have 1000+ but don't post often enough that you'd know them.

20. some people joined years ago but show up near election time
I've asked myself the same you ask. And when I see that they joined in 2001 it's always a surprise. So I just figure they wander back at critical times.

25. Like me . . .
. . . I've been a member for years, but I do most of my posting between primary and election time. But DU is a steady source of information for me -- some I keep, some I share. I think I've done more bookmarking here in the past month than I have in all the other years combined!

BTW, I am true-blue in a blue state, but in a very red county. Many local wingnuts are still clinging hard and fast to Bush and now his twin bro', McSame. It's a great reality check to come here to DU!

to get a thousand posts but I post sporadically. I will post for weeks on end and then barely post at all for months. Since the primaries started I've been posting lots and lots. :hi:

27. How about me???Been around since Spring 2002
and haven't posted much lately. It just hasn't seemed so urgent since the old days when we were discovering new things about the Bush administration every day. These things that everyone knows is true today, but that we used to get rolling eyes and sideways glances for back then.

Makes one wonder how and where and when and about what the 1000 posts were accumulated.

On the other hand - whatever.

30. What freaks me out is going deep into the subforums...
and seeing 1000+ posters who I never see up in the Big Forums. It's like an ant farm. Their own little world where the rest of DU doesn't exist.

:hi: I'm usually a lounger, I'm just here more lately.
I have trouble reading so I usually haven't commented in serious conversations.. discussions online make me tired.

I'm not a creep.. maybe some of these other people are though, I don't know!

32. Maybe a matter of who/what you notice
For example, I notice PC intern's posts- partly because I find them interesting, sometimes they make me think, and partly because s/he, like me, is a Phillies fan.:-)
