The differences between Running as a White Woman "R" vs. Running while a Black "D"
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 01:05 PM by FrenchieCat
If you are running as a White Woman "R", being new on the scene is refreshing!
If you are running while a Black "D", being new on the scene is frightening!

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can promote that you are a hockey mom who multitasks.
If you are running while a Black "D", you cannot mention that you are Black.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can run as a pit bull, and cry sexism if you are attacked.
If you are running while a Black "D", you are counseled to attack, but if you attack it will offend.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can be naive about foreign policy, and it is no big deal.
If you are running while a Black "D", you must know about foreign policy, and still be called naive.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can become a celebrity overnight based on scandals, and that's a good thing.
If you are running while a Black "D", being called a celebrity makes you a lightweight, not ready to lead.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can be associated with a separatist group, and still be an American.
If you are running while a Black "D", any questionable associations in your lifetime makes you un-American.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you do not need to wear a flagpin.
If you are running while a Black "D", you are questioned for not wearing a flagpin.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you do not have to answer press questions
If you are running while a Black "D", your answers to the press are never quite good enough

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can belong to an extremist church.
If you are running while a Black "D", everything your pastor preaches may be held against you.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can be born in Alaska and be an American.
If you are running while a Black "D", you are born in Hawaii, you may be seen as "other".

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can earn a BS degree in 6 years and be considered qualified
If you are running while a Black "D", you can earn a Doctorate Degree in Law and be considered unqualified.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can speak in generalities and offer no real plan.
If you are running while a Black "D", the details that you provide are never detailed enough.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you are the salt of the earth and people feel you are one of them.
If you are running while a Black "D", you are an uppity elite/other who can't connect.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", drawing a crowd of 25,000 is quite remarkable.
If you are running while a Black "D" , a crowd of 75,000 makes you a messiah/Hitler type.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", your family is out of bound.
If you are running while a Black "D", your family deserves scrutiny, including your wife's college thesis.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", being chosen by your running mate is good enough.
If you are running while a Black "D", earning 18 million votes after 18 months on the trail, doesn't mean we "know" you.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", being a small town mayor means you have responsibilities.
If you are running while a Black "D", being a community organizer is laughable.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can lie in a speech, and the speech will be hailed.
If you are running while a Black "D", everything you say will be fact checked.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", you are a game changer.
If you are running while a Black "D", you are a result of affirmative action.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", being good looking makes you hot and a good reason for people to vote for you.
If you are running while a Black "D", being good looking is superficial and no reason to vote for you.

If you are running as a White Woman "R", White Women will flock to you, even if they don't share your views, because you are making history!
If you are running while a Black "D", Blacks voters only vote for you because you are black, and that's racism!

PLEASE JOIN IN! WHAT ELSE CAN WE COME UP WITH?..........

the point being that Alaska and Hawaii are both in somewhat the same category....the newest states.

But thank you for your corrections.

12. Good one, Frenchie!
This is according to the US corporatemediawhore$ and intelligent people know they brought us 8 years of bush and the War On Iraq!

Someone told me at work that his mother is voting for Obama and she always votes republican for the anti-choice issue..but, she, found out that palin was against Gays and she said.."That's it!" "No More!" :bounce:

He went on to explain that his mother is Catholic that's why she's voted that way and I told him about the church palin goes to thinks that Catholics need to be saved. He said that needs to get out there 'cause he'd be telling his mom and other friends and they wouldn't happy with that.

14. Received this email recently
* If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "token hire."
* If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "game changer."

* Black teen pregnancies? A "crisis"
* White teen pregnancies? A "blessed event."

* If you grow up in Hawaii you're "exotic."
* Grow up in Alaska, you're the quintessential "American story."

* Name you kid Barack you're "unpatriotic."
* Name your kid Track, you're "colorful."

* If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless."
* A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."

* If you are a Democratic male candidate who is popular with millions of people you are an "arrogant celebrity."
* If you are a popular Republican female candidate you are "energizing the base."

* If you are a younger male candidate who thinks for himself and makes his own decisions you are "presumptuous."
* If you are an older male candidate who makes last minute decisions you refuse to explain, you are a "shoot from the hip" maverick.

* If you are a candidate with a Harvard law degree you are "an elitist-out of touch" with the real America .
* if you are a legacy graduate of Annapolis , with multiple disciplinary infractions you are a hero.

* If you manage a multi-million dollar nationwide campaign, you are an "empty suit."
* If you are a part time mayor of a town of 7000 people, you are an "experienced executive."

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a good Christian.
* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years and raising 2 beautiful daughters with, you're "risky."

* If you're a black single mother of 4 who waits for 22 hours after her water breaks to seek medical attention, you're an irresponsible parent, endangering the life of your unborn child.
* But if you're a white married mother who waits 22 hours, you're "spunky".

* If you're a 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton, the right-wing press calls you "First dog."
* If you're a 17-year old pregnant unwed daughter of a Republican, the right-wing press calls you "beautiful" and "courageous."

* If you teach abstinence only in sex education, you get teen parents.
* If you teach responsible age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

20. Good job, Frenchie Cat.
Now, I think I know why. It is because she is a Republican woman. Republican makes her "conservative". Woman makes her "liberal". In the minds of people who make snap judgments that math equals out to middle of the road.

The reason the GOP slapped down the John Edwards campaign was because white southern male Democrat, if you break it down politically in the minds of casual voters, the first three words equal "conservative" and only the last word equals "liberal". Now, we all know Edwards was running a liberal campaign. But, voters in the general who based their choice on appearances would have called him a moderate.

Obama, as a Black Democrat, is assumed to be a "liberal" "liberal". Even Democrats in the primary assumed that. That is why he has to take very statesman like positions and try hard not to fit a traditional liberal mold in the general. And that is why it is still tough for him to appeal to some moderates.

Anyway, that is the reason why Palin is getting treated as "mainstream" even though she is an evangelical, End of Days, abstinence only, creationism, no global warming religious right wing looney.

People think that all women politicians are more left wing than they are.

http://www.womensenews.org/article.cfm/dyn/aid/3668/context/archive

"Palmer said it's more than just choice that keeps them out of Congress. Voters, she said, perceive women as more liberal than men."

This does not necessarily mean that she is going to clean up in the election. She may end up alienating some of her own GOP base. I cited a study in another thread (don't have the link now) that showed that Democratic voters tend to vote more often for female candidates but that Republican voters do not give female candidates the edge, presumably because they look at them and think "women's libber!". Since the Democrats are running their own "first"---the first African-American, I doubt that we will see a lot of cross over to support a second female VP nominee from the staunch Democrats. However, some ornery Republicans may look at McCain/Palin and think "That damn McCain! He picked a god damned Hillary to be his running mate! I'm voting for Bob Barr! He did a good job investigating Waco!"

As for the press, they assime that Palin is really a middle of the road or moderate candidate, because she has two XX chromosomes. That is, until they start investigating her weird Church and her weird beliefs. Then, they get scared. My mother, a staunch Hillary supporter who is still mad at Obama (though she likes Michelle and is a Democrat) liked Palin at first---until she found out about her being an evangelical. That is the part that Team McCain is hoping to hide from the American people by emphasizing her gender. "See! Look! She is a woman, like Hillary! She must be sort of middle of the road, right?"

The Democrats' job is to remind America of why all the conservative old farts at the convention got so excited by her. They need to emphasize her church (if anyone complains, remind them that Obama's church was the most discussed issue of the primary) and her other kooky right wing beliefs. Americans want freedom of religion. They do not want a president forcing her religion down their throats, teaching it to their kids in school, making it the law.

21. In the end, being Black is not an advantage, while being a Female is.....
yet that is not how things have been portrayed by the media.

"Why can't he close the deal"......is a direct quote by many in the media, and they actually know the answer to the question, but oftentimes use it as a bludgeon against Obama, as opposed to stating the facts.

26. And that's why Obama cannot "go negative," "get nasty," etc.
Why don't people get it? The media will trash and smear him even if he did focus only on the issues. Why is it so hard for people, especially here on DU to understand the impact of race? The Republicans know it. When Hillary ran, she knew it. He'll be turned into "the scary black man who is attacking honorable, defenseless white people."

Frechie, you know I love you!! You are *always* on point! ALWAYS!!!

34. Here:
If you are running as a White Woman "R", you can charge women for their own rape kits and you're still a feminist hero.
If you are running while a Black "D", you can't use the phrase "lipstick on a pig" without being an enemy of every one of the 3.5 billion women on the planet.

need the qualifier of "white woman" or "black" because it is always OK if you are a Republican, not OK if you're a Democrat.
