OT-Ike Appears To Be Heading Toward Houston
They showed the highway going out and and it was jammed...

Full up...

There could be gas shortages... I believe there are a lot of refineries and off shore wells around there...

Good luck and God Bless to Texas DUers...

1. Thank you. I am really nervous!
We pretty much have to stay here because the storm is huge and there's nowhere else to go. :(

7. Me too, $40,000 damage back in 2004, plus my whole AC system
...failed to work properly after those storms. My out-of-pocket was nearly $14,000.

As I type this, from my home PC a heavy rain is belting my home with lots of lightening and earth-shaking thunder claps and rumbles hitting frequently, My house is wrapped tight and is dry inside, but there is a little anxiety and hope that nothing serious results. Stay safe!

12. Scary! I was in Hurricane Gloria in NY in Sept. 1985.
I was young but it wasn't too traumatizing. Now, hurricanes Katrina and Rita are another story entirely. :O

11. Thank you so much! I certainly will...
As long as I have power! My Macbook is all charged up and wireless but I'll have my Mac Mini and the PCs all unplugged so they don't get fried. :)

13. Just in case it might help...
I've been working on a new internet start up, keeping track of weather alerts, like hurricanes for instance.

It's still in Beta testing... and we've been having some problems with our site host... but I think I might've gotten it stable for the near future.

http://www.disasteralertdisplay.com

Don't be afraid when it warns you about the uncertified SSL certificate... our temporary host just made it... one of many issues with our temporary host. Just click through that.
I won't give out the Beta test password... partially because of the bad SSL certificate... don't want anyone to think I'm trying to run a scam. If you give no info, then clicking through an uncertified SSL certificate really brings no risk. Everything goes to an https: site for now. Have no fear.

In any case... go to the site, and you can check by state/county any weather info/alerts/warnings.
I double checked to see that the latest stuff reported on CNN was being picked up by the site. It is.

If I had more faith in the host we're using, I'd give out the Beta Test password... and then you could sign up and even get text messages sent to your phones when new information is put out by National Weather Service.

I hope the site helps any who are wondering what the latest info is, but don't want to have to watch CNN constantly for updates.
