What's Up with 'Our' 527s?
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 07:44 PM by the48er
It's been widely reported that the Obama campaign has winked and nudged its okay for "our side's" 527s to start going after McCain. Good. It's about damn time. McCain, Rove and the rest of the Republican motherfuckers need to be gutted -- figuratively, of course -- for their stupefying, mind-boggling, utterly shameless and relentless dishonesty -- and the gutting needs to commence yesterday. But talk is cheap, and I'm way, way, way past ready to see the goods rather than hearing more about all the good intentions.

Does anyone have any concrete news about major, lefty 527s raising serious money and creating actual ads that are headed for heavy rotation in major markets?

I'm not asking whether you think this is a good idea -- that's obviously what the vast majority of us here think.

What I'm asking is, Does anyone have any substantive news on this front?

3. Just got a solicitation from MoveOn.org entitled "Disgusting" 3 hrs ago.
Says they've been working around the clock producing and testing scripts, but they need to know that they'll be able to get these ads made and on the air.

I'll be donating.

7. MoveOn ended its 527 after the 2004 election.
The MoveOn ads which name candidates are through its PAC.

527s accept unlimited donations.

PACs accept donations of up to $5,000 per person.

5. about damn time...
... though wish it did not have to be so!

As for Palin, the 527s should go after her by airing ads in certain urban and suburban areas that shine a spot light on her extreme religious beliefs and political ideology. It will wake up all the moderate and independent voters who are currently in awe of her!

17. Actually, It's MoveOn's PAC
And yes, as soon as I found the email and pertinent link, you'd better believe that I donated every cent I could -- and then a little more.

Here's the pertinent MoveOn PAC email:

Dear MoveOn member,

Here's the situation: John McCain and Sarah Palin are repeatedly deceiving, manipulating, and flat-out lying. And polls are showing that some of those lies are convincing voters.

Palin says she opposed the "Bridge to Nowhere"—when in fact she fully supported it. McCain says Obama wants sex-ed for kindergartners—when he voted for a bill to protect them from sexual predators.1 And Swift Boat style groups are literally accusing Obama of consorting with terrorists.

If we don't get the truth out to voters in key states, now, we could be in serious trouble. This is one of those moments when all of us need to pitch in. Can you help? Click below to chip in $25:

MoveOn PAC Link

Ads cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce and even more to get on TV and in front of voters. We've been working around the clock producing and testing scripts, but we need to know that we'll be able to get these ads made and on the air.

In the last few weeks, this race has gotten really ugly, really fast. A few months ago a top official from the infamous Swift Boat group said they were planning to go after Obama hard. He wasn't kidding.

Over the last week alone, Republican groups have announced over $15 million in ads against Obama in critical states (and that's just from one news report!).2

We need to fight back.

To pull this off, it's going to take all of us working together. MoveOn is each and every one of us—we don't have big corporate donors—just millions of us chipping in what we can to build a better future for our country. Can you chip in?

MoveOn PAC Link

Now is the time to act and call McCain's bluff—if this stuff goes unchallenged it will cost more lives in Iraq and prevent this country from making progress on critical priorities like health care, clean energy, and education for potentially decades to come.

Thanks for all you do.

14. MoveOne Just Got A C-Note From Me...
And there will be another with the next ad and another with the next. Enough is enough...while I wish this campaign were based on the issues, the teevee has turned into a cesspool of lies and propaganda. Time to fight back...and make these goons eat their own swill.

20. Um...yeah. I do.
I work for a political ad agency (dems only, of course). I've done big mail campaigns, directly hitting McCain (with testimonials from former Repubs, even!) for a couple of the 527s listed in the Atlantic article linked in post 2 or 3. In fact, I did the agency's first Obama/Biden McCain hit piece the day after Joe's acceptance speech. I think it hits the mail this week.

Let me put it this way for those who are worried...I'm like an accountant in April right now. I'm working insane hours churning out ads for 527s and key House and Senate races. I alone sent eight mass mailings to various printers today. I sent out four or five yesterday and a few on Monday. We're extremely busy.
