Waiting for the shoe to drop: A theory regarding the "big" story
I don't know the poster who is claiming that there's something in the works re: McCain. That poster could be right or wrong.

But if I had a big, impactful story about McCain, I wouldn't release it this week. Why?

Because we're about to be flooded with 9/11 coverage. Obama and McCain are about to appear together. Both campaigns will send out messages about how this is a time for us to come together. Most controversies will be muted or swallowed on Thursday and Friday.

Sunday or Monday, I'd break the story. I guess we'll see.

1. Sunday night is the best time.....

The most watch Today show of the week is always Monday's.

Dominate a whole week's coverage..... if it is THAT big.

4. You love strategy even more than I do!
I hope Obama's campaign is ready with that McCain footage of his lipstick/pig statement.

2. I wonder who would be in charge of the timing of breaking the story.
But what you say makes sense.

6. The poster seems to suggest that...
the people with the story want maximum impact. But who knows.

3. Where are they appearing together?
I live in Asia and am stuck with CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera (good network, by the way). Hope I'll be able to see it.

7. Any theories as to what this might be?
I'm interested, but I don't want to be like Linus waiting around for the Great Pumpkin to appear.

9. It seems to be a story focused on McCain.
It may be related to Keating 5. If it is, I'm guessing that there is something McCain's caught up in now that ties back to Keating 5.

But all we know is it's a bad story about McCain and it has nothing to do with Palin.

8. I'm expecting a big nothing
Just instinct. Stories that are touted as guaranteeing "toast" are normally minor scandals or rumor that light up the first page here for days but barely make a ripple, if mentioned at all, in the mainstream media.

Give me the under.
