Absurd new GOP talking point...you may disagree with Bush, but...
...he'll keep you safer.

I've heard that over and over again from the talking heads and their subjects. Rudy just finished his free commercial for the GOP, and he too reiterated that "you may not like his position on some policies, you may disagree with him on certain issues, but ulitimately you have to ask yourself, who'll keep us safer."

So there you have it, America...sure, Bush is ripping you off. Bush is lying to you, Bush is stealing from you, Bush is constructing a New Military-Theocracy built on your kids' blood, Bush is burning your constitution...sure, he may be a fascist and a robber-baron, okay we'll give you that...but ultimately, America...don't mean, nasty guys make you feel more secure?

We're fucked. America is fucked if this nonsense is allowed to stand.

2. Think how much safer we'd be if he (Bush) read a PDB now and then.

God, I'd just puke, but my toenails already came up after reading about the repug's purple heart bandaids.

5. Hasn't this always been the #1 talking point?
At least since 9/11.

You may disagree, but if you do the terrorists win.
You may disagree, but Bush is our leader and you must respect him.
You may disagree, but you can't REALLY disagree.

9. Probably Buzzflash for starters
As far as Faux and all of their asskissing teeny-bopper fans (CNN, ABC, NBC, etc) they'd just bury it like they do ALL news that destroys the ever-important "talking points".

Send it to CBS.

7. The question is, fellow DUers: HOW DO WE COUNTER THIS?
I asked this on another thread and got nothing but denial and "What, me worry?"

What exactly do we do about this?

10. One of my favorites:
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 09:25 AM by cliberty
Rand Beers, Bush's own counterterrorism expert, quit his job in the National Security Council. He tells the Washington Post: "The administration wasn't matching its deeds to its words in the war on terrorism. They're making us less secure, not more secure...As an insider, I saw the things that weren't being done. And the longer I sat and watched, the more concerned I became, until I got up and walked out."

Boy, do I feel safe!!!

11. Exactly how are we safer?
I have to wonder, do these people actually believe what they are regurgitating? An absolute minimum effort to undertake the task of securing America's safety would require one to at least be at work.

"...Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003."

I really hope this contradictory bullshit is getting through to the masses.

Terra alert!
---> Calm down. He'll keep you safer!

They won't ever stop till we're all dead!
---> It's under control. He'll keep you safer!

Anthrax! Small pox! Nukuler weapons! Poisoned food supply! Drug tampering! Public transportation targeted! Banking institutions targeted! VA hospitals targeted! Fear! Hate! Terraaaaaaaaa!
---> Don't worry. He'll keep you safer!

"We will win the war on terror, there's no doubt in my mind."
---> "I don't think you can win it."

15. Why did you have to end with defeatist bullshit?
I was with you up to the "we're fucked" line. Why are we "fucked??" Should we just pack up and go watch the soaps?? Put a fork in us, we're done? I really resent how you mock the work that SO MANY of us are doing to win this thing. Instead of coming to the conclusion that "we're fucked," why don't you get off your lazy ass and VOLUNTEER??

18. Why don't you piss off, class warrior
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 01:01 PM by Atman
You should read the entire post...try the fourth word of this closing sentence if you're having a problem with the concept...

"America is fucked if this nonsense is allowed to stand."

Conversely it would appear to infer that America is NOT fucked if we DO NOT allow the nonsense to stand.

Look, classwarrior, maybe you had a wild hair (or is that hare? I never know) up your ass, and just misread, but your response was uncalled for. I've volunteered to the tunes of tens of thousands of dollars worth of my time, and left a lucrative client base to devote my efforts to removing the Bushista thugs. I've had a pro-dem/anti-Bush web site for longer than many of you have known about DU. I am an activist in health care issues as well as general political issues.

What are YOU doing besides sitting on your lazy ass and posting to DU? Come on, man...don't start that shit here.

16. Maybe they can explain how
Deporting Known Terrorist Nabil al-Marabh (google that name) to Syria "makes us safer"

Or how torturing, humiliating, "waterboarding" people in places like Abu Ghraib- 70-90% of whom are, by some accounts, completely innocent of having committed any crime, whatsoever-- how does that make us safer?

How does alienating the entire rest of the planet make us safer? (Oh, I know-- having f*cking allies is equivalent to "needing a permission slip to defend ourselves")

How does having a Government in bed with the nation that produced most of the 9-11 hijackers make us safer?

How does having an energy policy that increases our dependence upon oil from a part of the world that is in such chaos make us safer?

How does running the deficit through the roof, or asking for the ultimate "sacrifice" from young Americans in the military--while not even asking the minimal sacrifice from rich americans of their tax cuts-- make us safer?
