I am waiting for Obama to ask McCain why he is LYING about raising "YOUR" taxes
This is probably the biggest reason McCain is getting any traction at all - and it's a friggin' LIE. The ad says "he will raise your taxes". Bullshit - most people are getting a bigger tax cut from Obama, but for some reason Obama is keeping his powder dry on this issue for the most part. Is he waiting for the debate where he gets to catch McCain in a lie in front of the entire nation?

Obama - "So Senator McCain, whose plan gives a family making $xx,xxx a bigger tax cut?"

McLame - "ummm, errr uhhhh - let me get back to you on this"

Obama - "but your ad states that I am going to raise your taxes - isn't that essentially a LIE?"

McLame - "well, you do raise taxes on (blah blah nonsense)"

Obama - "ummm, you mean on the rich?"

McLame - "ummmm, errrr"

Obama - "and you call me the elitist...?"

McCain needs to be hit square across the face with a 2 x 4 on this issue. I personally think it's his most effective ad and it needs to be called out for the BULLSHIT that it is.

3. We are focusing on the P* phenomenon and ignoring the issues people care about
What the fuck is going on here - time is of the essence and people care about taxes and gas prices and the economy? They don't give a fuck about P*'s friggin' vagina!

ARRRGGGHH!!! And you are absolutely correct - where is the deficit plot showing how Republicans are BAD for the deficit and thus BAD for the economy. Borrowing money is like drilling for oil - it's a temporary fix - just like everything the Republicans do (or don't do).

Why are banks failing and people being forclosed upon? Because the Republicans DON'T DO ANYTHING PROACTIVELY!! They should have tightned up the regulations!! But they do NOTHING!

Oh, and now they take over Freddy and Fannie??? What?? I thought Republicans were for LESS government involvement and private industry?? They have FAILED at EVERYTHING - and they are winning because we are distractred by a shiny object??

We are ass holes and deserve the government we get. I am so fucking pissed at this country and DU is falling into the trap that the media and the morans have fallen into "hey, look over here!!!11!"

2. Obama has been talking about that on the campaign trail.
He is talking about those lies about tax policy while on the campaign trail. He's talking about the Republican deficits. But we don't hear about them on major broadcast media.

The pro-Republican consolidated corporate media we have these days reports that as "Obama held a town hall meeting in Springfield today." Period. Full stop.

McZombie holds a town hall and the consolidated corporate media run the story with a clip of John Sidney McCain III, humble Republican public servant with $520 shoes and 7 homes, warning people that "Obama is gonna raise your taxes."

4. And don't forget the health care taxation...by McCain.
In all fairness to the media, a number of reporters have pointed out that McCain proposes to raise taxes on working stiffs by making employer-provided health insurance plans taxable.

http://www.factcheck.org/mccains_5000_promise.html

... McCain failed to mention how existing employer-sponsored health benefits would be affected.

• Workers would be taxed on the value of any employer-paid health benefits, partially offsetting the $5,000 credit for those now covered by such plans.

• Experts say a tax credit plan like this would likely cause companies to reduce or eliminate health benefits for their employees.

Also, with the possibility that changes in the tax code will spur small companies to drop health care coverage or get some feeble variation on the health savings accounts McCain and the Bush administration -- yes, truly -- have been pushing, we could see a jump in the uninsured at a time when the economy is in the tank and the population is aging.

I should also point out that Palin has a scarily heartless view of health care as well (i.e., same old "market-based, market-driven" proposals). Just check the On the Issues website.

Biden, as far as I know, has already been on this topic at town halls and in interviews. I'll look for a transcript.

12. Yes, they had better do ads pronto.
And boil it down into a catchphrase or similar.

Biden was talking today in Des Moines about the McCain approach to taxes and health care. I'll have to find the quotes...

22. MCCAIN = TAX THE POOR
That's the kind of spin we need. He doesn't cut taxes as much as Obama does for the poor, so using Republican logic, we can say he's for "taxing the poor to help the rich" - which is EXACTLY what his plan does!!

8. I agree. Call it for what it is. Don't use "nice" language like "distort and mislead"
It's a LIE, pure and simple.

The longer they go unanswered, the more damage they can do b/c people will think they're true.

9. The lies work....
granted, maybe only on people that are a lost cause anyway, but I just posted about my two experiences today. I'll share here, too. The second pertains to taxes.

What I learned today from each of these family members:

1. 55-year-old white, female bank executive said, "Obama's terrorism scares me." I said, "His WHAT?!"

"His terrorism scares me. He was raised in a terrorist camp, for cryin' out loud."

WHAT?!!!

I mean, I knew the right wingers push the whole muslim thing, but I must say that's the first time I've even heard of someone saying he was RAISED in a terrorist camp. Yes, I set the record straight.

2. 40-year-old white stay-at-home mom, not usually overly political but only watches Fox. 'Nuf said.

Her comment, "I can't vote for a Democrat. Obama is going to raise my taxes 75%!"

"You don't have to worry about a tax increase unless you make over $250k."

But PA has such high taxes, and is heavily Democratic, so residents are associating the high property taxes, etc. with Democrats. Period. "And all our money is going to the lazy people who won't help themselves."

Again, WHAT?!!!

Listen, I am surrounded by people who have "Obama is the antichrist" all over their cars here in an uber redneck fundie area south of Raleigh.

Maybe I have really, really, really shitty karma and the only people I interact with have the above views, but I am indeed surrounded by them, and they are strewn throughout the country, so I can't blame it on the Bible Belt mentality.

People hear what they want to hear and believe what they want to believe. Facts be damned. Sure I went on my rant about how the right wingers campaign brilliantly by repeating the same lie, over and over and over again. They win campaigns and then govern like shit, which is indeed the plan.

I must say, the extreme ignorance of example #1 above has left me in more of a Twilight Zone than I was in before. The only good thing to report is that I think these people are not inclined to vote at all this year.
