"The sky is falling, the sky is falling" the moose killer is coming!!
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 01:50 PM by peacetrain
Holy moley. I come in and the first 5 threads are a melt down, because McCain got a bounce. With all the media attention to the fact he chose Palin, what did you think was going to happen.

They solidified their base. Of course he is going to get a bounce. They loved that raw meat message.

Gee whiz, I would not want "some" of these weak knee nellies in my fox hole in a fire fight. They would run off and leave me there

Seriously, a bounce was pretty much expected. And now they have found their Joan of Arc, McCain is going to get bigger numbers at his stops. But do NOT despair so. John McCain blew it big time on the vetting process.

They are going to hide her out, and drill down to get her through the debates, and roll her out on Fox news or a sympathetic newscaster.

But there is no getting around the fact, that the race is between McCain and Obama, and Obama is going to win. McCain has nothing there .. there.

This is just the beginning of the real campaign. The conventions are over and now is the time we push back and hit the ground.

Unless of course, you lose heart, and abandon ship, before it has even sailed out of the harbor.

1. Some of these "Nervous Nellies" are still bitter from the primaries.
And pounce on every bit of negative news to support their pathology.

This is the good part, when you get to get in there and go toe to toe with the republicans on who has the better programs, and policies.

I guess this election just means more to some than others. I can't afford another four years of this shit - maybe you can.

12. I disagree. It's obvious they don't know what they're doing.
There is no way Obama shouldn't be up by 5 points(at a minimum).

He's running against someone that will continue with the Bush policies. And, when a new candidate joins the ticket that needs to be defined the Obama camp ignores her; letting the McCain camp do the defining.

And, this post-convention bounce will get bigger, not smaller.

Can you honestly say it should be this close? We are running against four more years of George Bush and you're telling me the Obama campaign knows what it's doing.

You're nuts.

18. Call me all the names you want to
But, I fully expected the bounce. It is part and parcel of the campaigns . They bounced because they were talking to their believers.

Now we just have to make sure our believers get out there and work with the undecideds. That is who is going to choose. Not the people at the democratic convention or the people at the republican convention.

But what gets you there is a positive attitude.

And not sitting down before the race has even started.

Dawgs, they just dropped the hanky, the race has just started. Remember we are tougher than they are.

21. It's not about the bounce. It's the fact that he's leading where he should be down.
You tell me that "our believers" need to get out there; and I agree, but don't you think it would help if the Obama campaign was playing a little offense instead of ignoring someone that should be easy to bring down.

And, the bounce you expected isn't over.

28. Again Dawgs, we are just at the start of this final leg of the race
And we are going to pull ahead, they will pull ahead, its going to be close. We have a pretty fractured country now. And those undecideds are maybe 15 %. And I am fighting for every one of them.

Here I am going to say something nice about the other side. They don't give up. Everyone has been telling them that they were going to lose everything, the house, the senate, the executive branch, and hopefully they will.

But if we fall apart everytime the polls go south on us, they are going to yank and grab some ground.

Well not an inch of ground from me.

This is just the start

I want to see them get aggressive and take the fight to McCain. It worked great the week of the convention. Now it seems like they're interested in doing what they did when McCain gained ground a few weeks ago. Why can't they continue to just stay on the attack?

38. How about give them a couple of days to access the situation.
No doubt the Palin pick caught them a bit off gaurd. Plus the fact she is a woman complicates the attack strategy as we saw during the primaries. Every attack, legitimate or not, may be taken as sexist or misogynist. There is plenty of time to go on the attack, if need be.

And, you're telling me to grow up after you jumped into someone else's discussion is childish - and on a discussion board no less.

Ignoring the 5+ McCain lead, and mocking others, ain't going to win it for Obama. So, while you guys continue to act like pussies I'm gonna try convince Obama to do the things he needs to do.

Do you honestly think that the Republicans wouldn't go after Obama if picked someone with as little experience as Palin? Someone who they hide from the press? Someone that went after his service as a faith-based community organizer? They would have done those things, and it would have worked.

If you're losing to the underdog when you should be leading by 10 points then something's gotta change. And trying to define Palin would be a good start.

Now all we have to do is not get panicked by every poll. We need to keep focused on doing whatever little we can to help Obama and Biden by volunteering or writing letters and donations. Obama and Biden need to focus on getting prepared for the debates and visiting swing states etc. He has said he intends to win this thing either we are with him or not.

and particularly the faith-based ones who had gravitated to Shrub in the past (for his "Faith-based Initiatives" program), and Poppy (for his "Thousand Points of Light"), towards Obama. That snipe has netted Obama a group of voters who the Democratic Party has been trying to get. Today is Sunday and it would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall in churches everywhere across the U.S.

And as a note to you - here in Philly, the day after the repuke convention (last Friday), Obama started running the "McLame is against abortions" ad on the Arbitron top-rated radio stations here, every frickin' hour on the hour. He did a HUGE buy. As I understand, the ad aired in at least 7 states (and I think it was up to 10 as PA hadn't been listed in the news articles, although it played here). The ad is about as strident as one could get without being gutter. It's pretty strong and very targeted at the fact that McPalin wants to overturn Roe v Wade.

Obama is doing narrow-targeting to different regions of the country. In the U.S., as we should know by now, "one size does not fit all". Sadly I think that people see the national ads and think that is all there is but that is very far from the truth!!!
