Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 01:08 PM by jefferson_dem

Palin finally agrees to first tv interview.»

Under intense criticism for refusing to talk to the media, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) “is offering her first televised interview to ABC News in the coming week in Alaska.” The campaign said that an interview “was offered to ABC’s Charlie Gibson several days ago and that they expect it to happen in the latter part of the week in Alaska.”

he was pretty rough on Rick Davis recently, to my surprise

and there's a reason Gibson didn't get another chance to "moderate" a debate this time

an obvious reason

he knows

perhaps he'll try to retrieve a shred of credibility by axing a few tough questions, but I doubt it

even if he does, you can be fairly sure, he'll let her escape without followup

Even so, this will no doubt be a scripted and prerecorded interview.

13. That would be sweet
The Queen of Caffeine vs. Caribou Barbie!

The best thing about any interview they'll grant is that whoever is going to interview Sarah Palin, THEY would make a more qualified VP nominee.

Hmm, McCain/Couric '08?

40. I agree that they don't follow politics well
I love the show but when they speak politically I cringe. Howard eventually wakes up to truth it just takes a while. Good to know that he doesn't like Palin. Robin supports Obama but Artie can't even figure out email so he is hardly informing himself online.

On his bad days, not that great. But when he is on, he is on. He also seems to have Palin's number -- he is one of the few who describes her views as "extreme."

21. Stalling and hiding away all this time just to avoid a softball interview?
Wow, she must be worse than we think.

If she needs to be sequestered in Alaska before daring to show up for a softball interview with pro-Republican ABC, she must be a lot worse than we think.

Wonder if she'll be sent questions in advance so her RNC coaches can prepare some zingers for her to slip in there that can be shown as sound bytes in the "Wow, look how well she held her own," commentary on all the network news shows.

30. Not good enough for her VP bid, but will watch it for any amusement value
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 01:37 PM by DeschutesRiver
A VP candidate will never be taken seriously by the majority of americans, unless and until she/he can take spontaneous questions from reporters as issues come up. There are fundie/repubs making much noise about how Sarah is just pefect for VP and is just amazing - that isn't the majority that I speak to or that I see others speaking about. The majority I hear from is the group that she would have needed to be even in consideration to win this fall, and they are seriously either insulted or not impressed. In fact, it will probably be harder for McCain to get some of their votes now, based on this fiasco with hiding Sarah from reality. I hear a bit of a backlash to McCain, due to his obvious bad & rash judgment that is becoming more clear to people as being not something they want to see in a president.

Some canned interview, where the questions are provided in advance, so that the answers can be carefully crafted and practiced over and over until the sound bites roll out is nothing more than listening to this moron read someone else's speech at the RNC. It will thrill her base, but not do much for her getting the real votes ultimately that they need.

And if she ever does answer freely, you know, like every other american candidate for office does without hesitation, she will shoot off her other foot because most people will be shocked by what comes out spontaneously after a bunch of serious questioning gets her all rattled. She was known in AK to get highly flustered and upset during campaign debates, which probably won't come as a surprise to anyone.
