The rich get richer and the poor get drunk
...To coin an old line by the Replacements.

Income inequity is a real issue however, and the divide between the wealthy and poor has been steadily growing for the last 30+ years. Now there's proof in numbers that Republicans cause that divide to grow, while Democrats serve to shrink it.

Since WWII Republicans have held office 34 years, while Democrats occupied the White House for 26.

In the above chart, the 20 percentile means 80% of the people have more money than them. 95 percentile means only 5% of the population are wealthier. According to the data, the economy grows faster under a democratic administration than under Republican rule, and the difference grows dramatically with Republicans in charge.

What's more, the upper 5% sees little difference between the parties, so people like Warren Buffet have little at stake in this election. Not surprisingly, people like Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity have the most to gain by a McCain White House. You and I have the most to lose.

What's more, since the difference in income grows in the upper levels, people who earn more than $200k feel more distanced from those above them. In a recent poll, those people feel more depressed "when they see someone with more money than them".

Do the rich a favor, vote Obama.

1. So the dems are better for the economy all up and down the income scale...
Well, I knew that.

But damn them GOPer's have a great publicity machine.

2. The Dems are better for small business and venture capital also.
A while back, there was a link in the Economy forum about how small businesses thrive during a Dem administration. I'll have to go look for it.
