This was 10 years ago. This woman was married, lower-middle class and did not have health insurance. In her family there was her, her husband, two other young children, and no extended family with means or the ability to be caregivers. She would have never been able to afford a lifetime of medical bills and dropping back to only one household income so the other parent could stay home with the child. So she made the somber decision to have an abortion. It was her decision, not her husband's and not the government's.

Unlike Governor Palin, she didn't have government funded free health care, money in the bank and a large extended family to help out.

I feel sorry for the other 3 children who were born healthy, but will not go to college because the drain of supporting that one child consumed all the resources for that entire family.

It is a cruel calculus, but one which each parent has to make:
