CNN,NBC News Bosses Criticizes McCain's Attacks on the Media
After several primetime speakers at this week’s Republican National Convention unleashed a barrage of attacks on the news media for their coverage of vice-presidential nominee Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, network news executives defended their coverage and dismissed the charges as a stale political strategy meant to distract viewers from legitimate election issues.

“It’s a time-honored marketing ploy and, every time they bash the media, it means they’re not talking about a vision or a plan,” CNN president Jon Klein said. “But the best antidote to cynical marketing is solid reporting.”

“America has been presented with a total unknown who might be a heartbeat away from the presidency,” Klein said of Palin, “and Americans have every right to expect as much information as possible about this person so that they can make an informed choice. Certainly our critics are in favor of Americans making an informed choice, aren’t they?”

6. Yup- pull it back out a week into October and it will read like the fiction that it is.
Once they have "fully vetted" McCain/Pailin and "found nothing" and have found a brand new Obama/Biden scandal out of the blue.

10. Funny that this is on some website no one has ever heard of, and not on CNN, MSNBC/NBC itself.

Actions speak louder than text on an obscure website as well!

3. Cool- the GOP/media is finally taking on the GOP/media!!!
"So you you want to play games huh? Well take THIS!" (GOP/media slaps itself in face)"SEE- we *ARE TOO* objective!"

As another DUer said- I've sen better scripted rivalries on Reality shows.

Call me back in October and tell me how much the media is taking it's GOP owners to task.

22. Sure- and maybe he can hand it over to "broadcastcable.com" so they can print text of it.
And then we can all email it to each other or something.

5. To my thinking they have been exceptionally mild in their coverage of Palin
and not given her the scrutiny that Obama certainly received.

they want to start acting as real journalists?

Nah, they're just pissed off - temporary lapse into reality.

13. "acting as real journalists" Acting being the operative word.
They are "acting" now when they pretend to take on the people who sign their paycheks- but they be acting in October when they attempt to seal the deal for McCain.

They are just putting quotes into the blogosphere so they can pretend to be objective.

If they meant it, this would be on the CNN & NBC TV shows, not on some 3rd rate website that no one hardly reads.

Mark my words.

8. Note that the GOP/media takes itself to task on an obscure website, not on the networks themselves.
I guess the GOP owned media didnt allow them access- oh, wait. ;)

17. They are "unloading" on some website I've never heard of-why not on CNN & NBC TV or websites?
I'd rather them unload now and continue to do so up until October.

This is a smokescreen- they arent going to "unload" on anyone but DEMS.

If they were sincere about sending a message to their bosses in the GOP- this would be their TV stations- not on a message board.

They just want these quotes in the blogosphere so they can point to it in October and say "how can you say we are not objective- we took McCain to task several weeks ago!"

18. But at least CNN & NBC will be there to set the record straight- via text on "broadcastcable.com"
You saw-er, I mean heard- I mean read- it first- right here on broadcastcable.com!

Maybe CNN & NBC wants us to email this to people or something. Seems like they could just say it on their own channels, but I'm not the media expert around here.

23. Not to beat a dead horse- but did you note the link? It is not CNN or NBC.
Funny that CNN and NBC took the GOP to task- not from their own million viewer networks, but from an obscure website.

LOL! Maybe the couldnt get a booking! ;)
