The Palin Administration says it closed the deal to sell the fabled Westwind Two jet for $2.1 million. Valdez resident Larry Reynolds is now the proud owner. The Texan moved to Valdez four years ago. And now he’s known as the man who wants to change the economic landscape in Valdez.

3. I love how, during her speech, Goodie Sarah was careful to say...

..."I put it on Ebay," rather than "I sold it on Ebay." The plane was indeed put on Ebay, where it attracted only one (low) bid. It was then sold to a businessman through some crony contacts in the Alaska statehouse...at a knockdown price.

Nice little gift to a loyal supporter, I guess.

4. The plane, valued at 2.7 mil, was sold by Torbo North American

for 2.1 mil. So it was neither sold on e-bay, or for a profit, as stated by mclame today in Wis.

6. Some Republican accounting going on there, for sure.

Apparently, a broker could have got $2.7m or so for the plane, but Miss Wasilla had to go for the "cute" play and put it on Ebay, where it got a bid of about $1.6m. That was below the reserve price, so the plane didn't sell, whereupon the crony network passed it off to Crocodile Valdez for $2.1m, a...wait for it...$500,000 "profit" over what was offered on Ebay! So, through the magic of lying, a $600,000 loss is instantly transformed into a nice big profit.

With that kind of grasp of P&L, I can't wait to see what the economy looks like in 2016. We'll have a GDP somewhere around that of my local Pitch n' Putt.

7. Did McCain lie about the plane today in his speech?

I don't think he intentionally did so. I think he was parroting Rush Limbaugh.

I would love to get a copy of the video I saw today on CNN that they put up before McCain's speech. I would love to run that video of Limbaugh and immediately run a copy of the section of McCain's speech where he talked about Palin and the jet.

In that brief video, Limbaugh said exactly what McCain later said. Limbaugh asked if his audience liked Palin's speech. Then he said he thought the speech was "fabulous". He then said the part he liked the best was about Palin selling the jet on ebay.

Is this a maverick? I was shocked by the similarity in the segments of Limbaugh and later McCain. I don't think McCain is foolish enough to be lying. I think he's so far into the hip pocket of Rove and Limbaugh, ready to do virtually anything to win, that he's parroting their remarks and relying on them for their accuracy (or inaccuracy in this case). I think this shows what bad judgement McCain has. I think it shows that he's become the opposite of a maverick. It shows that he's ready to do anything and everything they tell him to do, hoping he can win, including putting a stealth fundie psycho on his ticket.
