4. I wondered about that too
I'm European so I don't know for certain what the rules are. But I find it extremely creepy. Every time I see it I find myself thinking of...well, you know.

6. If you watched the Democratic Convention
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 08:14 PM by goodgd_yall
you would have noticed all the military people were in civilian clothes. A military person cannot be in uniform when involved in partisan politics. I think it would be OK if they were involved in a voter registration (non-partisan activity), but there are strict rules about wearing the uniform while involving oneself in a political campaign.

10. Here is an excerpt from the Army Regulation 670-01
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 08:34 PM by goodgd_yall
Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia:

Wearing Army uniforms is prohibited in the following situations:
(1) In connection with the furtherance of any political or commercial interests, or when engaged in off-duty civilian
employment.
(2) When participating in public speeches, interviews, picket lines, marches, rallies, or public demonstrations, except
as authorized by competent authority.
(3) When attending any meeting or event that is a function of, or is sponsored by, an extremist organization.
(4) When wearing the uniform would bring discredit upon the Army.

I'd say the Republican Convention applies to 1, 2, 3, and 4. ;)

Not sure what the intent is. But what comes to mind is an attempt to discourage military coups and the appearance of the armed forces supporting a particular political party over another. Shrugged shoulders here too.

12. ALSO
according to Code of Conduct, any active duty member may only participate in a political activity as a private citizen. That means that NO recognition of current status or rank in the military should take place. fucking double standard assholes.

22. Um, it's illegal, not just against policy.
That is why they had to hire actors to portray the funeral.

Anyone in uniform not in an official capacity at the convention should be accused and tried by either courts martial or nonjudicial punishment.
