Let's call for a one-day STRIKE by all Community Organizers across the country
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 02:39 PM by JimDandy
How soon could we pull this off? We'd need to get the word out to local organizations in our cities. Especially ones that are connected with government programs. Contact the media. etc.

Ummm, blushing, we first need DU community organizers to put this together. Who's in?

1. That only hurts the people who need them the most.
I think they're suffering enough.

10. I agree.
It would only hurt those who have the least.

Mainly because it would those people who need the help of community organizers.

5. I'm aware of that. I should have stated that a one-day strike would be sufficient.
and let me say again the focus should be on organization tied to the government. Soup kitchens, health services, etc. absolutely would not be included.

3. Because your feelings were hurt?
The people losing out on this deal are the people not getting the help they need during the strike.

11. Good grief!! No, my "feelings" aren't so easily hurt, but the idea is to point out to the repukes
that billions of people would lose out if there weren't community leaders/organizers. In fact, I'd bet that everyone benefits every day from the efforts of some community organizer.

4. Don't strike - march.
Plan a day in each major city, and march in protest. Then keep doing the good work that people depend on you for.

8. Massive turnouts at McCain rallies
With signs saying things like "Habitat For Humanity -- Don't We Matter?"

7. To what end? That rich Republicans will notice and be affected? I don't THINK so.

9. Why? It would hurt the people who need them, and accomplish nothing else.
Hell, the powers-that-be would probably like it, since COs are nothing but a thorn to them.

12. Fuck that.
We should call all community organizers to get out the vote for Obama.

I was thinking more along the lines of protesting at, for example, my local Neighborhood Community Council meeting that receives block grants from my county government. It's attended by caring Democrat, Greens, Libertarians Independents and Republican people from the local area. But I doubt that the average Independent, Libertarian or Republican in my neighborhood council knows what the Republican party thinks of their efforts. Boycotting that one meeting and passing out quotes of what was said at the Rep. convention I think would ALSO help get out the vote for Obama.

And here is what Obama just said in an interview regarding the Republican's painting of community organizers' efforts as irrelevant:

"How can they think that is not relevant? Who are they fighting for if they think fighting for workers in the community is not important?
