As my wife and I discussed today, if McCain and Palin win this
election, we are going to have to consider getting out of this country - it is truly, truly, perhaps permanently, fucked. I am utterly disgusted, as I watch David Brooks say things like "she attacked, but did it nicely".

lol, my husband and I have been preparing this possibility all year. He requested a job transfer to London with his company, and just started his new job over there on Monday.

I have to stay until the house is sold but I already have my UK residency visa and my daughter has her British passport. If those 2 win it's over for this country. Honestly, we can't take 4 more years of this kind of hateful, belittling, divide and conquer crap.

16. London is just as bad if not worse than here.
The Labor party are about as effective as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. The British people are spied on now by government cameras placed near everywhere over 3000 times per week. Britain has a hand in every war at every opportunity.

Italy has an open fascist leading it right now. Where really can people go?

71. If you forgot your sarcasm thing, that's one thing
but if you honestly think we have no choices because america is so great, you clearly are on of a party where they never leave the USA.

Right, Bush never left (and he is such a stellar example of intellectualism) and now you got Witch Flick who only left the once...when she was what was it? Commanding the National Guard? Oh, no, that's right, she lied about that and you all bought it. So, she was just there for the photo op and got her first passport to leave wassila-tucky! How cute.

You obviously have no idea what kind of freedoms we've lost here...but then, you deserve to live in a Fascist state if you don't care enough to keep up.

I talked to my husband as this was going on and said, if they win after everything that has gone on the last 8 years and has come out about Palin the last several days, if they manage to fool the country again or steal it again, we have to leave. I have 3 kids and there is no way they will live here if she is anywhere near the presidency. I dislike her as strongly as I dislike Bush.

35. Even electoral-vote.com has Obama ahead?!
Dang, that site is the most conservative of three groups I check for polls (and least statistically accurate, too). Both FiveThirtyEight.com and DU's own phrigndumass have a better statistical analysis of the polls, and they look even better for Obama.

Still not getting complacent, though. Even though we say that Palin failed with her speech, it's going to rally the base, which was the whole purpose of the thing.

13. The choice is too clear to even be close. If McCain wins, it's America that moved away from me.
The Republicans have been mindfucking this country since Reagan and Limbaugh came onto the national scene in the 80s. It's terrifying to see how well they've succeeded in transforming what was once a peace-loving, thoughtful, humble nation into a celebrity-obsessed, warmongering, vapid, arrogant, terrified, hateful land.

I believe the balance still falls on the side of the good, but I thought Kerry was going to win in 2004, too. If the country actually does choose McCain over Obama, I will know that the America I know and love really is dead.

What is it, down to about 8%? I don't think Sarah Palin can say or do anything that will capture those remaining undecideds. She'll appeal to the religious psychocrazy extremists, but they've already made up their minds. She's not going to appeal to progressive or even moderately progressive women.

140. The Republicans are so vile, I couldn't bring myself to take more
than a passing look at their Convention and I felt dirty.

Americans are not hated overseas, it is the Administration and the Republicans whom people dislike. Most of us were literally sick when Bush won a second term and if McShame wins this time, then people may dislike Americans but not everyone will understand that the elections were stolen.

We here in Canada are disgusted with the Harper government for not allowing the American soldiers who do not want to go to Iraq to stay in Canada. A lot of us are donating to the cause.

I agree with another DUer, fight back, volunteer, Americans have to ensure that the Obama's margin of win has to be so high that the elections cannot be stolen.

Regards

And the fact that the TV talking heads are sitting there blovating like this situation is "normal", is proof that this country is out of control.

Let them drown themselves in their sick religous neocon movement, they will drown themselves in a teacup!

68. As I asked ...HOW???
How are we going to pull this off? We pretty much pushed for really strict gun control in the progressive states worth living in, like New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California. All of the firearms worth using for something like this are banned and/or really hard to get, even in other states. And if I'm not mistaken, something like 90% of the military are repuke supporters, and you know they'll be fighting to keep the "Union" (if you can call it that anymore) together. So, how would this really work?

54. I can't leave.
I can't leave my family here. My partner and I would be too far away from them.

What we will do - regardless of who wins, to be truthful - is prepare ourselves for hard times ahead. If the economy goes south, if crime goes up, if the infrastructure crumbles, if stupidity reigns.. we're going to do the best we can for ourselves and our families.

This is our most realistic option.

69. How? how are you going to?
How are we going to pull this off? We pretty much pushed for really strict gun control in the progressive states worth living in, like New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California. All of the firearms worth using for something like this are banned and/or really hard to get, even in other states. And if I'm not mistaken, something like 90% of the military are repuke supporters, and you know they'll be fighting to keep the "Union" (if you can call it that anymore) together. So, how would this really work?"

I can survive in the woods and shoot straight.

There won't be a need for such extremes because we can and we will elect Barack Obama President of The UNITED States.

Just in case, I remind all that a well armed populace is the greatest deterrent to tyranny. They think we are pussies that won't defend ourselves or our country but many of us will and I encourage people to seriously consider your devotion to your ideals, your kin, and your country.

No shrill narcissistic bitch and her freak old man handler will ever be capable of running me out of my country. I am hard wired to fight such things, and history has taught me that all civilizations and nations periodically face this kind of threat.

I am no flag waving freak either. But I'll stay and fight or at least find a way to counteract rouges who try to take over and ruin my nation.

ETA: I don't have a problem with people wanting to leave as a solution for them on a personal basis. But someone has to step up to the plate and fight for what is really important, and America as it can be is worth the effort. Nobody is guaranteed an easy life with all the things they want delivered to their door. I believe individuals have to make stuff like that happen, sometimes against all the odds.

but we cant just let these fascist take the united states(even tho they are halfway there already).

if this gets worse, maybe we need to step it up a bit and take this to a different level as far as dissent goes...

if there looks like there was illegal voter purges and machine play after this election, we need to be out in the streets in mass letting them know this bullshit isnt going to fly anymore. we will not be passive and just wait till the next election so we can be cheated again. at some point enough is enough, and we are going to have to try another tactic... and it may not be pretty or what we want to do.
sometimes you hafta do things you dont want to do tho to better yourself or the people around you. self sacrifice isnt always pleasant, but going to jail may be a small price to pay for an entire countrys right to liberty and justice.

102. I hate seeing QUITTER talk here on DU with just 60 days to go ...
51 million people voted for Al Gore in 2000

59 million people voted for John Kerry in 2004

And those are just the ones they counted!

36 million people took part in this year's Democratic primaries and caucuses.

As a registered Democrat, you are a member of the largest community of progressive democrats anywhere in the world.

We all need to think about what action we can take over the next 60 days that will help to bring about the outcome we want to see.

NEVER FORGET what we are fighting for and why we need CHANGE.

QUITTING lets down the rest of the team and helps the other side.

PLEASE don't even think about it! :hi:

108. Panama. Hubby and I have obtained permanent resident status in Panama
but will have to find a place to live.

In 2005 we bought property there, but the American developers have really screwed everybody.
Our house is half built and work stopped in January 2007 by a workers' strike that the developers
used to cover their financial problems. Instead of using deposits from buyers to build our
houses/condos, they bought more land and expanded their project concept and forgot to integrate
materials price increases, island logistics, and foreign work standards into their construction
schedule.

We're about to file a lawsuit against them.

So, be careful if you go to another country. Who'd have thought the boys next door from
the US would screw you?
