13. Do you remember the reaction to the Republican convention of 1992?

The country hated the anger and nastiness of Marilyn Quayle and Pat Buchanan. The already low rated GHWB fell after that convention. What you are going from is an aberration - the fact that the media praised the 2004 hatefast and simultaneously took back there praise of the hopeful, high road Kerry convention. Neither you or me can see the road not traveled. I think that if Kerry had morphed into Michael Moore, the convention would have led to a Bush landslide. (I do not care what Carville says - he is a hypocrite - look at the type of convention he had in 1992)

I think Obama did many things he needed to do. He gave the Clintons so much presence in the convention, that no HRC voter could say she wasn't heard or respected. They in turn used the speeches to move their people. Michelle was re-introduced in an incredibly effective way. Her outstanding speech was immediately validated by the the sweet scene of the Obama kids speaking via satellite to him. This showed rather than said family values. Then there were some good speeches that made the case for Obama over McCain - notably Kerry's wonderful speech that contained many elements others could adapt and use. Topping it all off was Obama's speech, where he was inspirational, had detailed proposals and was Presidential.

People whined about lack of red meat in Denver, but when Obama gave his speech and wrapped everything up, I, at least, certainly saw it as an overall perfect package... building to a cresendo with our man, our candidate standing there at the end, and all of us behind him. It was beautiful, moving, inspiring.

This just makes me angry.

Are you insane? Thompson managed to come across as a Grumpy Old Man, Lieberman as a snooze (cf. Zell Miller, who was at least engaging), and Bush just looked pathetic.
