As I've written here before, I knew a manic-depressive pretty well, and Shrub has all the signs to my eye. His supposed alchoholism when he was younger -- many M/D's self-medicate with booze. His inactivity during the first 8 months of his presidency suggest a bout of depression -- very costly to our country since it left Cheyney in charge and Cheyney had concluded that the threat of terrorism "was not urgent." Bush's frantic activity after about 9-15-01 suggest a M/D in the manic phase. In the manic phrase, the M/D just has no time for a reality check. The M/D I knew believed, at one point, that Army helicopters were hovering over her house 24/7 to "protect" her from -- whatever. It's not that they hear voices or anything, they are just too UP for a reality check. Popping into Condy's office and saying, forget it, we are taking Saddam out -- typical manic. And, as he has recently confessed, he misestimated the consequences. Right. Manics don't stop to think through consequences. I know, he's likeable. Manics can be very charming and likeable -- until you get to know them well.
OK -- It would, I admit, help if we had a diagnosis from a board-certified psychiatrist. So far as I know ....?
Question: Is it true that Mr. Bush has been diagnosed as manic-depressive? If so, why is this being hidden? Don't the people have a right to know whether their president is mentally sound?
Sleazy? By what standard? By comparison with the smear of Max Cleland?
