My husband eschews political discussion. He pulls the trigger on the right candidate so I don't hound him. But it makes him uncomfortable, driving around in my Obama-magnet-sporting Prius. He just doesn't talk or do politics, thinks it's not polite. Plus, according to him, it makes me "all spun up". That, I cannot argue with him.
But even he is shaking his head in disbelief. "Why on earth did he choose this woman?"
His parents are the same way too. They will vote for Obama, but won't donate money or do anything else to help the campaign. They are non-political beings. They are confused about why McCain made this choice. My MIL said, "I think this is a setup. I think they're trying to lose."
My SIL, who is every bit as political as I am is cackling happy. "Bring it!" and "He's completely crazy!"
It's a befuddling choice. Why?
I told my husband that I think Steve Schmidt had Pawlenty all picked out for McCain, but that McCain himself called Palin and asked her. I strongly suspect that he intended to buck the Rovian choice, to make it look like he's a maverick, but he has grossly and crazily miscalculated.
Even my hubby said, "This is his first big decision as a Presidential candidate. How could he screw it up so badly? What does it say about his judgment?"
