M. Charles Bakst: What Bush needs to do: Look presidential!
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 08:13 AM by splat
In the 2004 Republican National Convention that opens in New York tomorrow, President George W. Bush faces what may seem like an odd challenge: He has to come across as presidential.

Sure, Sen. John F. Kerry faced the same challenge at the Democratic convention.

But Mr. Bush is president, and, three and a half years into his term, it is extraordinary to say he must demonstrate he is up to the job.

Yet if more Americans were impressed by his stature, or, certainly, by his performance, he wouldn't be locked in such a close race with Kerry.
