On C-Span: Arianna Huffington just said "We didn't run with the Palin grandmother story because we
didn't have verification."

No one flinched.

On NOW!

1. See, even the MSM has standards sometimes...
...which is more than I can say for some at DU lately.

2. Her choice of words is interesting.
People who are not internet junkies like us may not have an inkling about this story. Her mere use of the word "grandmother" will cause interest. Like "Hmmm? I didn't know she was a grandmother. Wonder what that is all about."

The first story is the water broke, she is irresponsible. The second story is...she's a grandmother.

Ariana opened the door to the second story.

8. Yes, that is what she is doing.
Whether the story is true or not doesn't matter because she covered that by saying they couldn't verify it. It was perfect.

10. Exactly. Sounded like she was dropping breadcrumbs to me.
Maybe stir up some more interest (aka evidence).

Honestly, sometimes I don't know what to make out of Arianna though.

18. I've read in several places that she went back to work in 3 days.
Anyone here do that? Most women need a couple of weeks to begin getting back to their own care routines. I can't imagine being ready to go to work.

back to work in three days. She also apparently was bringing the baby to work with her.

38. Please provide a link that says she took the baby to work with her.
Everything else I've read states that her mother cares for the children. Also, Sarah Palin lied in her campaign for governor and said that her husband would stay home and take care of Trig. He didn't. She actually had to address that issue after she was elected and her husband refused to quit his job.

11. Exactly my point. We shriek "Media Whores!" while behaving even worse.
Swiftboat Kerry? We moan about the sensationalist media spreading lies.

Babyboat Palin? We're just "fighting the battle".

It's hypocritical.

15. That is NOT my point - big difference between MSM & DU
They(MSM)should be held accountable. We're a forum - a place where people can post their musings, rants, questions (no matter how bizarre) and more, all on an anonymous basis. Unless, like some posters, you have duped yourself into thinking your opinions/musings are of greater import than they really are. Like I said before, "get a grip."

29. There's nothing wrong with DU being a clearinghouse for big issues
as long as we don't pretend to be in possession of evidence or truth.

We can be in posession of rumors and the smoke and evidence surrounding rumors, without claiming authority.

This is an un-moderated forum, and people should read it as such.

We're posting links as they become available. Until then, this is all speculation. As far as I've read, noone here has claimed otherwise.

That's entirely different from the Faux TV "news" "anchor" bimbos with their "some people say" insinuations.

Blogs are the perfect place to collect leads, but TV "'news" shows are responsible for investigating them.

Since you feel compelled to make a statement, tell me how you regarded the Swiftboat Veterans...or the rumors that Clinton was a lesbian...or that Obama is a Muslim.

Those are all examples of irresponsible, unfounded speculation. "Babygate" is no m ore valuable or morally defensible.

And the Obama/Muslim rumors have taken a toll, as well.

Why should we Democrats always have to play by the rules, while the Republicans play dirty and win election after election? Do you value a Good Sportsmanship medal more than the White House? Sounds like it to me......

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 10:10 AM by RichGirl
...some turn out to be true (Monica, John Edwards, etc.) Some don't. We are not going to know if they are true if no one talks about it. Talk turns to investigation which reveals whether it's true or not.

Yes, the swiftboat rumors were false and the Bush awol rumors were true, but they never made it to the surface because we are too spinless and afraid to stick to it!!!!

31. Good point worth considering
The firewall between it's funding source and its content is well-defined in its charter.

From their page: http://www.c-span.org/About/Default.aspx

Corporate Information
C-SPAN is a private, non-profit company, created in 1979 by the cable television industry as a public service. Our mission is to provide public access to the political process. C-SPAN receives no government funding; operations are funded by fees paid by cable and satellite affiliates who carry C-SPAN programming.

I went to the Huffington Post page and saw the story about the "grandchild" which is NOT the story about her daughter being the mother of Trig.

33. I'm sure I'll be flamed for this
but whatever.

You know what? I'm tired of this shit. Do you have any idea what these assholes are up to? Yesterday, I was registering people to vote in the deep south and I had a nicely dressed white man ask me why I was working for a n---- and then tell me it didn't matter, because he "wouldn't be around long and neither will you missy."

I was shaken to my core.

the day before, my friend was told "what a waste of two perfectly good white people".

I guess I can't impart how sad and demoralizing this is, but for the love of god...we really do live with these people who are so unenlightened, so in bed with their own devil, that I --who am MOST hopeful-- can not see a way around them except OVER them.

So, GO TO THE MAT people.

IF the other side wins, people like THAT will be running our country.

I have been so depressed after seeing the ugliness of these people -- we can not let them win. We will go down as a nation forever.

I hardly think that expecting truth and holding them to the same standards as they hold our candidate is wrong.

He had to provide a birth certificate. No one cried fowl or humiliating then. She can provide a birth certificate and end all of this speculation.

What we are fighting is horrible, entrenched and so deeply disturbing I can't express it verbally. Don't flinch from winning this. And no, we aren't the same as them and if you have the luxury of believing we could be, then maybe you need to spend some time with these people and see the hate spewing from them. I dont' mean to jump on anyone, but I've found frequently that those insulated from the hate are the largest advocates of not fighting back. I used to live in a very liberal town-- and very insulated town. Lots of lofty ideas, and a great place to live. But when you stepped out of that bubble, you were unprepared for the real world. Lots of academics discussing things, but no street smarts. We're fighting Extremists filled with hate with words? Paragraphs most people in America can't follow? Our candidates website is all about his policies, america, etc. McCain's website is a tribute to his pettiness and ugliness with it's "countdown to Biden's last gaffe", etc.

FIGHT as if our lives depend on it, because they do.

Obama and Biden will bring us back into enlightenment. an age of compassion and art and education and equality and science. this is FORWARD and we must go forward. FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT.

And do it smartly! Preface this crap with "I'm sure she's a nice person, however, not qualified for this job...."

and...
what was John McCain thinking? Was he thinking? Transparent and accountable, why won't she show us the birth certificate? She ran on transparent government, and now she's hiding things. Is this More of the Same? Is this bush/cheney all over again? she 's already claimed executive privilege! we need to vet this person for the SECURITY of our nation...INEXPERIENCE RED BUTTON 3 AM PHONE CALL...etc."
