3,244
3,244 - That is the number of cities that are bigger than Wasilla, Alaska in the United States.

Would the mayor of Le Mars Iowa, Wyoming Ohio, Vermillion South Dakota, Shasta Lake California, Santa Fe Texas, or Jerome Idaho be qualified to be the Vice President of the United States? No.

However, every single one of these cities (and 3236 others) is bigger than Wasilla. Given the (lack of) thinking of the GOP, they are as qualified than Sarah Palin is for the Vice Presidency.

--

16 - That is the number of cities that have more people in them than the ENTIRE state of Alaska.

New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, Detroit, San Jose, Indianapolis, Jacksonville (FL), San Francisco, Columbus, and Austin (TX) are all bigger than Alaska in population. I am not counting suburbs; this is just the cities themselves.

Will Wynn, Michael B. Coleman, Gregory Ballard, and John Peyton. Do these names sound anything resemble familiar? No? They are the mayors of Austin, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Jacksonville respectively. Each man has a jurisdiction greater than Alaska. Why haven't these been vetted? Heck, Ballard and Peyton are Republicans. Plus, Peyton is younger (3 months younger) AND been in office for longer. (5 years as mayor) Why have they gotten a call from the GOP?

--

John McCain has shown poor judgment with for his running mate, and even worse judgment in trying to make Palin look "experienced." Even though Alaska is an entire state, there are 46 governors and 16 mayors that have a greater population than it. Plus, her "preparation" prior to being governor is 4 years as a council member and 6 years as mayor of the 3,245th largest city in the United States. There is no national experience, much less global experience, in this woman.

I'm sorry, but this is pathetic. Even though Barack Obama lacks the years of experience that either John McCain or Joe Biden has, even his Illinois State Senate district (1/19th of Chicago proper) has a quarter of the people as Alaska does. This gives him 11 years of experience at the level Palin has 1.5 years, plus 3.5 years of national experience.

There is NO way anyone could call this woman qualified to become Vice President.

7. Thanks
It's been a nightmare with this. I want to hammer the important things, such as dismissing her "experience."

*sigh*

11. When has REAL research ever been part of a Republican campaign?
The way they cook the books on the economy. The way they immortalized Ronald Reagan who practiced everything the Republicans supposedly opposed?

I think what we're witnessing is a case of Karma busting out and giving the Repugs a big bite in the ass after all of the 'family values' and morals and 'Christian' rhetoric they've shoved down our throats for the past several elections.

24. The Republicans should start researching NOW....
This could be the beginning of the end for the GOP. If they don't start using their brains, they will be a distant memory in the grand scheme of things. Too bad...

However, I can still have some schadenfreude at them. After years of getting trounced, we get our payback. And it couldn't happen to two better people...

23. There are probably 10,000 better choices than her!
Think about it. There are 97 other senators, 435 representatives, 49 other governors, countless (well, I'm not willing to count them) state representatives and senators, even more county officials, and 4,344 mayors that have similar experience to Palin at the mayoral level.

Hey, I love numbers! I think they're hilarious, especially in these circumstances.

8. Can't remember now
I did this from 10:00 to 2:00 last night. I am exhausted! My guess is that it's about 15,000. However, this is at most an educated guess. (I don't want to redo my Excel sheet...)

When I hear that the Siberians are sending kamikaze polar bears over to Alaska to attack helicopter-riding hunters, then we can talk about Russian foreign policy.

16. Sure...
Actually, it's closer from Boston to St. Petersburg (4111 miles) than it is from Anchorage to Moscow. (4365 miles)

So, yes, technically the land that is Alaska is closer to the land that is Russia. However, New England is closer to Russian civilization than Anchorage.

:P

20. Define "city"
If you live in California, New York, Florida, or any such crowded region, 100,000 people is probably a good sized city. There are only 254 "cities" by that definition, and Wasilla (pop. 8349) would be closer to an apartment complex, not a city.

As a small(ish) town Iowan, 10,000 is a city. Any thing smaller than that is a "town." 2,842 "cities" are in the US. Wasilla would still be a "town." (Fun fact, there are 34 "cities" by this definition in Iowa.)

If 1,000 is a "town," (I know high schools in IOWA that are bigger than that!) 10,157 "towns" are in the US (including the 2,842 "cities"). Again, by this definition, Wasilla is a town.

Unfortunately, I deleted all the settlements that are smaller than 1,000 from my Excel sheet. So, I can't give you how many "settlements" there are in the US. Sorry! (From what I remember, there was probably about 15,000 settlements in the US. Don't quote me on that, though. Every thing else is fair game, though. ;))

I can't tell if you're saying this in jest or actually serious. If this is in jest, here's some more info! If you're serious, again here's more info. It may not be exactly what you want, but this is what my handy Excel sheet says.

(Oh, and all this is from the 2005 census estimates, found online at http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/ . If you want more info, that's the site to go to.)

I guess the county supervisor ought to think about running.
