Sarah Palin Pregnancy Decision Map
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 09:33 PM by TwoSparkles
(edited to add that I did not create this! My husband found this on Digg and I cut and pasted
the link, and it pulled up the jpg. I wish I had originated this, but it's someone else's creative
genius, not mine).

Here's the original Digg location: http://digg.com/comedy/Sarah_Palin_s_Pregnancy_Decision...

3. Excellent diagram - for a totally unbelievable scenario.

My scenario: You get a call on your cell phone. "Mom, I'm in labor." Putting your plan into action, your get your ass in gear and hightail it to a podunk hospital outside Wasilla.

119. It all happened while she was governor of a state of 700,000 people, not a VP candidate..
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 08:44 AM by George II
...and it was in a tiny state population-wise. Had she never become the VP candidate, this probably would never have come out at all, "conspiracy" or not. Who in Alaska would really care? But now she's a national figure, possibly someday becoming President. BIG difference.

139. Of course! She just laid in a hospital bed in the maternity
ward for what, two days, reading magazines while her daughter's baby was smuggled into the hospital.

I sure buy that.

I bet you thought OJ's blood samples were contaminated too.

174. Ok, then please explain the "coincidences"...and irresponsible behavior:

1. Her daughter was taken out of school 6 or so months earlier (2-3 months into "Sarah's" pregnancy)

2. Up until about a month or so before the birth, no one around her, a VERY public figure (after all she was the top elected offical of Alaska) had even known she was pregnant. She told everyone in March that she was pregnant, she "gave birth" on April 18!!

3. Her water broke and she felt contractoins at 4 AM in Texas - contractions that she herself said were different than those of "false labor" (remember, she already had four children)

4. She stayed in Texas for another 12 hours and then ultimately had the baby at 6:30 AM the next day (actually with the time difference 29-1/2 hours later)

5. The unborn baby was already diagnosed with Down Syndrome, yet she delayed the birth by more than a day AND subjected it to 12 hours of air time - probably 3 flights from Texas to Anchorage with the repeatedly changing cabin pressure.

6. As a 44-year old woman who had already had four children, once the water broke and the contractions began, she couldn't possibly have not given birth in more than a few hours.

Either she's a liar or an irresponsible mother. Take your pick!

195. How about some sanity?
"At a press availability in Monroe, Mich., Barack Obama said: "Back off these kinds of stories."

"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off limits. This shouldn't be part of politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor and/or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18, and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldnt be a topic of our politics.""

I personally don't want to hear one more criticism about ANY candidate for public office re: their minor children's activities.

Oooops, forget that, we're talking about republicans!

Listen, bottom line is this is a discussion about the alleged MOTHER, not the child! We're talking about JUDGEMENT - 29 hours after labor pains to permit the birth to happen? That is worse than just POOR judgement!!

Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 07:14 PM by George II
... but honestly no one cares (in principle) that the girl got pregnant. What we DO care about is that these people (McCain and Palin) are so-called "family values" candidates who claim to have better judgement and management skills than the Democratic candidates.

McCain showed HORRIBLE judgement by picking a very questionable running mate without, as we now find, even sending anyone to Alaska to vet her!

"Family Values" Palin shows HORRIBLE management AND parenting skills by not even being able to keep her daughter from having underage sex and getting knocked up. Where's the "moral upbringing" that these fundies claim?

So, it's not the daughter OR her illegitimate child that's at issue, it's the judgement and management that's at issue!

Could her reason for all the delays have been she wasn't too
concerned about the birth of this child...and maybe if she waited long enough it would die before seeing the light of day. I think she is an uncaring mother about this child. She knew that this child would not be "normal" like her other children...so why bother to hurry its life into this world. And was she ashamed to tell people she was pregnant until she was 7 months along? It would be interesting to know if she did this with her previous pregnancies.

This is exactly what my wife came up with. She had never heard the story before and when I outlined it for her that was her first reaction - if you are a rabid anti-choice person, all you can hope for is that the baby will die and you can have plausible deniability.

If this whole scenario is true, she is not only incredibly stupid and risking the baby's life, she is risking her own life too. She could have had a raging infection by the time they got to Anchorage and she could have died.

Apparently, Texas hospitals aren't good enough for Sarah Palin. She thought so poorly of the state that she had to hop on a plane and fly 10 hours back to Alaska.

Apparently her husband, the Dominator, and Sarah simply did not want the baby born in Texas. Nothing to do with Texas hospitals, especially considering the state-of-the-art facilities in Austin. They wanted the baby born in Alaska. More panache, I suppose.

88. That wouldn't be the worst scenerio
With membranes rupturing early, the most dire threat to the baby would be a prolapsed cord - which is much more likely when the baby is premature. Another possibility would be delivering precipitously, again much more likely - and dangerous - with premature labor, especially considering this is her fifth child. I know of no OB/GYN or midwife in his or her right mind who would suggest this lady get on a plane and fly a few thousand miles if she thinks her water may have broken.

Either she didn't make the call, or she blithely ignored her health care provider's advice. Neither speaks favorably of her decision making ability.

Leave the rumors about whose baby it is out of it - and just go with what she says happened.

The decision flowchart above details numerous bad decisions she made during her own personal emergency. Do we really want someone that poor at making decisions for herself and her child making decisions that could well impact the entire world?

Granted, the idea is stupid.

But think about it...If a "pro-life" woman suddenly found herself pregnant with a child she didn't want, but didn't want to have an abortion; she might purposefully be wreckless, so she'd miscarry. I know, it has the same logic as Christians who kill for Jesus; but that's the freakazoid mindset for you.

But I think she is sincere in her fundy beliefs. If she had an abortion, as a fundy, she'd consider herself a candidate for eternal damnation.

She's not that stupid, but she could be in that much denial about wanting the pregnancy to terminate.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 08:52 AM by George II
She may not have been "concerned" about the birth of the child because it was already underway up in Wasilla while she was travelling back home?

If she really WAS pregnant and spent 13 hours getting back home for the birth (highly doubtful), what does this show about her judgement, knowing already that the child was going to have medical complications?

If she really WAS pregnant, and already having given birth to four other children, there is no way that the birth could have been put off 13 hours after she began leaking fluid, ESPECIALLY with the increase and decrease of pressure on 2 or 3 airplanes!

The fact is, she had to rush home to Alaska for the "birth", otherwise their whole story would have unravelled. I'd like to see her explain how she could have given birth in Texas without a baby!!!!

Any woman who is lucky (or wealthy) enough to have health insurance knows that once your amniotic fluid begins to leak you must seek a hospital immediately because you and your child is at high risk for infection.

193. Well I just heard an ER doctor call in on Thom Hartmann's show
and suggest this very scenario. Maybe I am too naive to believe anyone would do such a thing. She would not have the nerve to directly terminate the pregnancy with an abortion, but she would risk its life by not going to the emergency room when she was leaking amniotic fluid and having contractions... and her husband was with her and he either did not know or did not force the issue.

It just blows my mind to think that people would actually do this. I guess as an ER doc you see everything.

16. When we were pregnant with our second child
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 09:12 PM by bobd0
we waited until the contractions were only five minutes apart before heading out for the forty-five minute drive to the hospital. We BARELY made it! This woman's FINAL LEG OF AN EIGHT HOUR TRIP was forty-five minutes AFTER HER WATER BROKE.

This is total bullshit. If Palin was pregnant with her FIFTH child she would have delivered on that first plane. I had a friend whose wife has seven children, the last of which was born IMMEDIATELY when a nurse had her lie down on a gurney when she arrived at the hospital.

This isn't rocket science. There is NO WAY Palin made a 4,000 mile journey in labor. NO FREAKIN' WAY.

38. Precisely...
I've been wondering how long before someone thought this one out. This is supposedly the woman's fifth child? Every woman I've ever known or heard of has had shorter labor times with each successive child - most of the women I know did not have more than three, but that's enough for most people anyway.
The whole story is not credible.

Anybody have pictures of her daughter around that time? Why do they need to cover up the pregnancy. Unwed teen mom, maybe that's it but a DNA test could be very interesting.
I doubt the baby was a preemie. It was just in another body. That part is obvious.

153. She also said that she felt her contractions change.
Not just that her water leaked but also that her contractions changed. With my first, she was born 12 hours after I felt the contractions change, and my son was born only 5 hours after I felt everything change. There's no way, with her fifth and a preemie at that, that she could go that long after her contractions changing.

I told Hubby (an internist) the whole story last night, and his first response was that it wasn't her baby but her daughters. He said it's just too darn implausible on every count.

I really can't believe the press isn't making more of this. Anyone that has been pregnant, or just has plain old common sense, knows that you don't get on a plane when you are in labor. I don't even care if it's early labor - you don't know how fast that baby is coming. This whole thing just shows what incredibly poor judgment she has, not how "tough" she is.

58. According to some of the posters on other threads here at DU,
No woman should ever be held to account for giving her career higher priority than her children. If a man could do it, so should a woman.

That said, any man who would go to a conference out of state so close to his wife's due date would be a creep, and any man who got on a plane while his wife was in labor, for any reason other than to be by her side, is a creep.

Sarah Palin, judged in totally non-sexist terms, is a creep.

137. You are aware ??

You are aware that medical complications can occur in child delivery are you not. Given that she says says her water broke, there would be a good likelihood that she would deliver the child in between the time she boarded the plane and ten hours later when it landed. And then ... in the car from Anchorage to Wasilla.

Something REALLY important was in Wasilla that she needed to get to. Like ... probably the doctor from her church that would keep her secrets and ... THE BABY ... delivered by her 16 year old daughter.

Houston likely has some of the best medical facilities in the world. And I'm sure if she had gone there, they might have discovered that Sarah Palin was just wearing a fat suit!!!

62. I feel a need to point this out, though I know it will make me no friends.
In the source I read, the phrase used to describe what happened to Palin was "leaking amniotic fluid." There is a big difference between "leaking amniotic fluid" and having your water break.

You can have a "slow leak" of amniotic fluid for days before you actually go into labor. It happens to some women. Sometimes they just go about their business waiting for the real show to start; or, if they're high risk for some reason, they might get put on bed rest or some such thing.

If your water breaks, then either you are already in labor or it's gonna start real soon now. If Palin's water had in fact broken, then sure, she's as nuts as that flow chart makes her look. But if it was a slow leak, then what she did is not totally beyond the realm of reasonable behavior, as long as she was consulting with a competent OB about it.

Not having made a special study of coverage of Palin's pregnancy and delivery I can't say for sure which description is accurate--whether she had a leak, or whether her water actually broke. The laws of, I dunno, everything, however, would suggest that it was a leak; if her water had actually broken, I don't see how either she or the baby could have endured all that delay. I

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

67. There is no difference!
When your water "breaks" there is rarely a "gush". Most often, it is a leak. Every woman who has been pregnant knows that the correct response is to proceed to the hospital so you can be examined. If you are close enough to your due date, you will be admitted. If you are far from your due date it is even more serious and you will be admitted.

Surely the correct response cannot be "Let me give my speech in a few hours then board a flight for eight hours with a layover in Seattle and a further drive to another hospital". It makes no sense.

My water broke with my first child and I was immediately admitted, even though I was having no contractions. There is a danger of infection if there is too much of a delay.

73. I believe you over looked two key facts...
the "leaking" of amniotic fluids began 1 1/2 months before the predicted due date with a pregnancy that was already known to be high risk. They knew the child was going to be born with downs syndrome. Combine that with a woman who had already had 4 other children a flight back to Alaska from Texas was stupid anyway you want to cut it. So she was either reckless with the babies life or is lying about events and her water didn't leak/break until after she returned to Alaska and is just trying to up her street cred, for lack of a better phrase.

if they did not. you exactly proved where this woman gave poor judgment

i had both with both children and told go to hospital. and they induced. they do not want the baby in sack cause of infection, high risk infection ergo induce. why you need the hospital.

how does that justify this woman from 4 am until 10:30 (really 12:30) exhausting her already stressed body being away from medical care

132. Another long distance diagnosis from the Republicans
She consulted by phone with her OB/GYN in Alaska.
So how did the diagnosis of the actual state of the amniotic leak go down ?
And remember we are talking about a 5th pregnancy, a 44 year old mother and an infant known to have Down's Syndrome.
At least Bill Frist used video for his voodoo medicine.

As was stated above- the airline if confronted with a quickly progressing labor (a very real possibility with a 5th child) would have probably landed at the nearest airport. Sorry folks, but it's all about her and husband's fear of a Texas born baby - so your travel plans and schedules don't matter.

157. Doctor probably told her to do a sniff test.
If the fluid is greenish, then there's meconium in it and is a sign that the baby might be in distress. If it smells like ammonia, then it's the mom's pee (it can be hard to tell the difference towards the end, honestly). If it's clear and has no smell, it's amniotic fluid, and the clock starts ticking on the 24 hour time limit.

If a doctor doesn't follow the standard of care and there's harm to the baby or the mother (lasting harm here in Michigan, which seriously sucks), that's malpractice.

156. No, any compromise of the plug is considered water breaking.
It's all about infection. You have 24 hours to get the baby out before the risk of death for mother and baby skyrocket. Standard of care is 24 hours after any confirmed leaking of amniotic fluid, and they did get the baby out within that time frame (though darn close to it) when he was a preemie and needed to stay in as long as possible.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 04:42 AM by Lena inRI
. . .of this baby Trig.

But the important question should be,

Who is the father?

Why? Because there are several less convoluted ways to cover up a daughter's unwanted baby:

1--Adoption

2--Honest admission with marriage of daughter and her fathering beau

3--Honest admission as daughter is helped by Palins to raise child

So, this extraordinary cover-up of a daughter's birthing is really an extraordinary cover-up of MUCH MORE.

Who's the Daddy? Here's the scandal that the Palins are going way out to lie about.

Any crackerjack reporters on to this?

Some exclusive this would make.

You're welcome.

161. On the phone with her FP?
Sorry, no dice. Any real doctor worth his or her salt would've told her to get her ass to the closest good hospital with a NICU. Instead, the doctor herself admitted in the news article that Sarah never specifically asked for medical permission and that the doctor most likely wouldn't have given it (which is doctor-speak for CYA).

Palin and the baby could have died. It's that simple. Her doctor, an FP (not a high-risk pregnancy specialist, the doctor she should've had), was not with her but instead trying to figure it out across the miles and over the phone. Standard of care was not met, and if something had happened to Palin or the baby, it would've been malpractice and an instant lawsuit.

216. She should be worried, though.
Ob/Gyns have some of the highest malpractice insurance rates in the profession. My husband's an internist, so his rates aren't horrible (that, and we live in Michigan, where there are lower rates anyway), but the Ob/Gyn who helped me deliver our daughter has left the profession because of it. Their practice hadn't been sued recently, he'd never been sued, and his cost went from $50K one year to $100K the next. FPs who deliver babies are subject to the same high rates, and malpractice insurance companies are known to randomly raise rates if they think a doctor's a higher risk than they'd thought. She'd better hope her carrier doesn't read the paper.

I don't think they will be too pleased with SP's decisions that she made, and I'm sure none of them know about this story. Most of the people in this town are sheeple and believe what the MSM tells them to believe. So, putting this story on their cars where they can read it may be a good way to reveal a "Truth About Sarah"!!!

117. Here's the bottome line:
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 08:55 AM by George II
Palin had already had four children. For a woman like that, once her water broke (even slightly), the birth is almost instantaneous - it comes out within minutes or an hour. It could never have been put off for 13 hours! Also, consider the effect of cabin pressure on the whole process during the two, maybe three flights from Texas to Anchorage.

Here's my take on the real story:

As fundamentalists, having an illegitimate child is unconscionable, especially for a public figure. So, as soon as they found out their teenage daughter was pregnant, they contrived the story that it was Sarah Palin, not her daughter, and started the coverup:

- Already knowing that she was going to have a baby with Down Syndrome, would she really risk a 13-hour trip on several airplanes, considering the negative effect it could have had on the health of the baby? (just an aside, does this show "good judgement"?)

- They took the daughter out of school 6-8 months earlier, until after the birth. She may have had mononucleosis, but that lasts a month or two, not 6 or 8!

- The truth is that she had to "give birth" in Alaska, because that was where her daughter was. How would they explain how "her" baby was born in Alaska while she was in Texas?

- They also waited months until they announced that Sarah was pregnant, forstalling the obvious questions and scrutiny (i.e., "why don't you look pregnant?", etc.) until shortly before the baby was to be born. It's already been reported that no one around her ever noticed that she looked "pregnant" anyway.

- Notice that in all official photographs beginning in March she wore a ski jacket, even indoors!! That covered up the fact that she was NOT pregnant.

- There is a family picture from April (wish I knew how to post photographs) where the daughter has an obvious bulge (NOT the type of belly a teenager would already have if not pregnant), the other two daughters are wearing SHORT SLEEVE shirts but Sarah is wearing a heavy sweater or jacket and standing partly behind one of the daughters.

- Finally, a pregnant woman's face and hands get a little pudgy during late stages of pregnancy. The appearance of her face just a month before the birth is identical to recent photographs, just 2-3 months later.

It just doesn't add up - they are lying to cover up their failing (in the eyes of rightwing conservatives, anyway) as parents and the perceived shortcomings of them and their daughter.

Remember, NONE of this happened with the thought that she would ever be running for president. If she was only going to be governor of a state of 700,000 people, this would never have come under the scrutiny that it has today.

I don't believe it; I think it's damage control. And sorry but I don't trust many of the people trying to push it.

Every day in the womb is worth two in the NICU.

124. hold up, she was 7 and a half months?
I was too, and my daughter's lungs were so itty bitty she stayed in intensive care for almost a month! This baby didn't? Is that common?
She was less than 3 pounds at birth!

Anyway AWESOME graphic you made there. I smell a Darwin award for a certain Alaskan.

163. Yeah. The baby was 6lbs some odd ounces. Odd.
That's a big boy for that early, and even taking into account there's no NICU in the hospital where she gave birth, he never went to one. Honestly, something's just plain wrong here.

212. My sister's babies all weighed over 10 lbs, one almost 11.
I can just about guarantee six lbs if she was two months early. My first came at 28 weeks and he weighed four.

215. That's true. I hadn't thought about that.
Granted, my son didn't have Down's or anything that often is tied to lower birth weight, but he was 9lbs, 7oz. at birth (came on the due date, just like his sister), so a month early, that would've been around his size. Still, DS kids are often much lower in birthweight because of several health issues the condition causes.

221. We tend to birth large babies in our family, LOL.
But they grow up normally. In fact both of my sons were premature and one is 6 foot 3 and weighs 204, the other is 5 foot 11 and weighs 165.

149. I read this as the actions of a control freak who refused to compromise
her wishes for her child's benefit or her own health. Unless her extremist hyper-religious line is a lie, she also appears to think God has special plans for her. Not a stretch to see her assuming that "God would protect her" so that she could do what she wanted. Such people typically conflate their own wishes with "God's will."

168. The fact that she travelled all the way back to Wasilla makes me more convinced
that she did not carry this child.

Who was the attending physician? Who was on the nursing staff?

She travels back to a tiny town where she can control the message and create the facade of reality.

Granted, I never heard of this woman until 3 days ago.

175. CNN now saying that Bristol is now pregnant and is going to marry the father.
I agree with all above that this baby has to be Bristols because there is no way the above could have happened (water breaking...plane trip...drive.. delivery...5th kid????). Sarah Palin just needs to come out with the truth because this all can't be good for her daughter. Then she needs to change her religious beliefs of leaving out the sex education and teaching only abstinence. This is a perfect example of Bushs failed policies and the typical coverups and how McSame and Palin would promote the same crap! Sarah Palin needs to step down and someone needs to pay better attention to those kids. This is sad to display them on national TV with all this talking going on about them (kids). This is a teenagers worst nightmare to have their secrets displayed everywhere. It's like the dream we all had as kids where you realized you were walking around school without your clothes on (everything esposed)

192. Photo of Sarah Palin pregnant 1989 - you be the judge

And the infamous 7 months photo from 2008

For the record got these at http://www.giftsandfreeadvice.com/free_advice/sarah-pal... /

But they are now all over the net.

First found them on a local Pittsburgh bloggers site MacYapper by a former talk show host. Think his comments hilarious.

MacYapper - I don't know about this. I mean, I believe there's some news worthiness here. If this is true, we have the first kid of the VEEP candidate knocked up while running for public office with the holier-than-thou Family Values Party.

If these two are going to marry, why aren't they already married? IF this is true, could Mom have just been informed as well? Could this be a roundhouse shocker they're all just learning about that they're pretending is something they've known for a while?

It is STILL really strange that Governor Half Baked blew up like a balloon in her first pregnancy and looked positively svelte in her last.

197. Palin's Water Broke at 4 AM - Anchorage Daily News
Early Thursday -- she thinks it was around 4 a.m. Texas time -- she consulted with her doctor, family physician Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, who is based in the Valley and has delivered lots of babies, including Piper, Palin's 7-year-old.

Palin said she felt fine but had leaked amniotic fluid and also felt some contractions that seemed different from the false labor she had been having for months.

"I said I am going to stay for the day. I have a speech I was determined to give," Palin said. She gave the luncheon keynote address for the energy conference.

-----

Alaska Airlines has no such rule and leaves the decision to the woman and her doctor, said spokeswoman Caroline Boren. Palin was very pleasant to the gate agents and flight attendants, as always, Boren said.

"The stage of her pregnancy was not apparent by observation. She did not show any signs of distress," Boren said.

Palin never got big with this pregnancy. She said she didn't try to hide it but didn't feel a need to alert the airline, either.

203. Any woman with multiple births would likely have a SHORT labor
especially after her water broke. There is no way, this woman was able to last more than have a day before giving birth.

That said, any woman whose water breaks prematurely, would be frightened. So much could go wrong. They would find the closest hospital for assurance that all is well. No doctor would sign-off on, and no woman with any common sense would endanger her unborn child, or herself by embarking on a short, let alone a very long flight. Remember also, this woman has other children who need her, would she seriously consider making them orphans?

Something happens to a pregnant woman - or at least to most women. They are extremely over-protective, and overly cautious. I lost my daughter 2 days after birth. It was a normal pregnancy, but complications do happen. It is a delicate time for any woman, and fortunately most pregnancies end happily, but as I said, complications can happen, which is why doctors, and mothers-to-be do not take unnecessary chances.

I don't believe this child could be Palin's. I don't think her labor could last long enough for this travel itinerary to happen. No way, no how.

I don't care if the child is her daughters. This type of arrangement has been happening for generations. I do care about being lied to (again) at the onset of her nomination.

As an American, not as a Democrat, I have tremendous reservations about the Republican ticket. As an American, it frightens me.

222. I was thinking the same thing
Once Alaska secedes, then those born on Alaskan soil would have Alaskan citizenship.

Also, what are the requirements to receive the yearly dividend check from Alaskan oil profits? Is the check available only to those over a certain age, or are dependents who are minors also eligible for funds? Just asking....
