Palin: Iraq is a war for oil.
Guess she was so insignificant, she didn't even get the neocon "security, freedom, and democracy" memo.

Palin: Iraq is a war for oil.

In a recent BusinessWeek interview, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) admitted that she believes the Iraq war was fought because of oil:

We are a nation at war and in many the reasons for war are fights over energy sources, which is nonsensical when you consider that domestically we have the supplies ready to go.

In May, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) also said that he plans to “eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.” He later backtracked from his comments, denying that he meant to imply that the Iraq war was fought over oil.

5. She agrees with us and disagrees with the Reps a lot. It's why shes dangerous
She's praised Obamas support of the gas pipeline, and his stance on lobbyists, which mirrors her own.

She'll get traction with some Indys, the Rep base who wasnt crazy about Mc Cain, and some of Hillary's support.

8. I agree with your assessment.
I think some folks are missing the forest for too much focus on some of the trees here.

14. Yup. Shes not an unknown that was picked at random. There are strengths.
And parts of the rep base were pushing for her selection as early as March, from what I have seen online.

Lowering expectations of her ability isn't doing us any favors.

11. Watch her massage this position if she's even challenged on it.
She will be seen as just another hard right repug flip-flopper.

feel the same way at this point. So I'm not sure how much of a negative that will be with their base.

Honestly, I'll be surprised if she backs away from it. Shes been very vocal saying the ties to foreign oil are a disaster for this country and that we need to use our own reserves while we develop renewables.

But you're spot on, the national spotlight often causes "adjustments" to be made...

17. But aren't these people inclined to think it was ok to invade for oil?

19. I guess I'm thinking about current rationales.
Once some people realized the "rah, rah!" stuff was horseshit, they just said "fuck it" and decided it was ok to invade for oil.

Never mind it seems the Chinese are going to be getting a damn good piece of it, if not the lion's share.

25. It could be the only way they can rationalize all the deaths as being acceptable.
But I do hope it is less common then I fear.

6. I'd read the entire article
She actually seems like a pretty forceful person. If she comes across as forcefully in person as she does in that article, she will help McCain and not hurt him. Still think she is out of her league. But she does seem like a real talent and something of a rising star for Republicans. Probably tapped by McCain 4-6 years too early in her career.

15. The party has evidently been watching her since her election to Gov
I think she was tapped too early too, but it's a mistake to underestimate her. I've been researching her for a while now, and read a few q&a's just last night. She's passionate, informed about the issues in her state, and articluate in her opinions.

But the national spotlight is a very hot fire....should be an interesting couple of months.
