Palin Eagle Forum Questionairre (yikes)
http://eagleforumalaska.blogspot.com/2006/07/2006-guber...

2006 Gubernatorial Candidate Questionnaire

The following questionnaire was sent to all candidates for Governor with their responses listed in the order we received them.

1. Complete the sentence by checking the applicable phrases (you can check more than one).
Abortion should be:
Banned throughout entire pregnancy.
Legal to save the life of the mother.
Legal in case of rape and incest.
Legal if the baby is handicapped.
Legal if the baby has a genetic defect.
Legal in the first trimester.
Legal in the second trimester.
Legal in the third trimester.
Other:__________________

SP: I am pro-life. With the exception of a doctors determination that the mothers life would end if the pregnancy continued. I believe that no matter what mistakes we make as a society, we cannot condone ending an innocents life.

2. Will you support the right of parents to opt out their children from curricula, books, classes, or surveys, which parents consider privacy-invading or offensive to their religion or conscience?
SP: Yes. Parents should have the ultimate control over what their children are taught.

3. Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

4. Will you support efforts to raise or lower the mandatory age of education? Why or why not?
SP: No, again, parents know better than government what is best for their children.

5. Will you support an effort to expand hate-crime laws?
SP: No, as I believe all heinous crime is based on hate.

8. Do you support parental choice in the spending of state educational dollars?
SP: Within Alaska law, I support parents deciding what is the best education venue for their child.

9. Do you support legislation requiring labor unions to obtain permission from their members before using dues for political purposes?
SP: Yes, unions represent their workers and as such, should be accountable to them

10. Do you support the Alaska Supreme Courts ruling that spousal benefits for state employees should be given to same-sex couples? Why or why not?
SP: No, I believe spousal benefits are reserved for married citizens as defined in our constitution.

11. Are you offended by the phrase Under God in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?
SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and Ill fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.

12. In relationship to families, what are your top three priorities if elected governor?
SP: 1. Creating an atmosphere where parents feel welcome to choose the venues of education for their children.
2. Preserving the definition of marriage as defined in our constitution.
3. Cracking down on the things that harm family life: gangs, drug use, and infringement of our liberties including attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights.

Let her tell us all about how the Pledge of Allegiance was written by the founding fathers and how they put "under God" in it. I would really enjoy hearing THAT story.

The dumbing down of America is complete.

We have a candidate for national office who is completely unaware of the history of the Pledge of Allegiance.

I wonder how many people know even the NUMBER of nationally elected officials in our nation? I wonder if she would get this question correct?

19. This is exactly what these people are like
They operate on slogans and bible verses. One woman I knew literally couldn't get through her first semester of college because she couldn't deal with the concept of the reptilian brain and limbric system. She wasn't an animal and that was that. Unreal. It's imperative that we expose this woman's crazy ideas to the country. It's our chance to get people thinking again.

13. Her answer to Question 11 shows lack of knowledge of history
Our Founding Fathers were not the ones who gave us the Pledge, which was created in the 1890s WITHOUT the phrase "Under God", which was added in the '50s. Jefferson was a Diest, and Adams was a Unitarian. What they fought for was freedom FROM a state religion. Adams knew from the history of his own region what happens when a theocracy is allowed to take charge of affairs.

As for gun ownership strengthening family life--I don't see it having any relationship to family life. I've known families, good strong families, where no one owned a gun, and I've known families, good strong families, where the family sport was hunting. But I've also known families who were torn apart because a family member shot another family member. There has to be sensible regulation of guns, and gun owners must take personal responsibility with securing their firearms and ammunition so that a tragedy does not occur.

16. This idiot's answer to the last one is scary.
Instead of:

seeking to guarantee health care for children and all members of the family;

helping to ensure that all families are housed and fed;

seeking to improve public education;

working to assist families caring for elderly or infirm relatives

This kook is focused on:

allowing like-minded kooks to teach creationism and receive taxpayer funds for religious education, and undermining public education;

refusing same-sex couples with or without children ANY of the protections afforded by legal marriage;

staunchly defending families' right to own guns (which isn't even threatened, anyway)

What a freaking idiotic ideologue. She is truly awful.

18. Wacko.
Her top 3 priorities for families include preventing gay marriage, ramping up the war on drugs, second amendment rights and it looks like school choice. She is an extremist if she thinks that those are the things that keep most Americans awake at night.

She pretty out of touch with mainstream Americans. Most American families' are more concerned with issues like health care, decent jobs, the price of food, gas, college tuition, etc.

20. Under God in Pledge of Allegiance was good enough for our founding fathers?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 01:59 PM by valerief
The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855-1931), a Baptist minister, a Christian Socialist, and the cousin of Socialist Utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850-1898). Bellamy's original "Pledge of Allegiance" was published in the September 8th issue of the popular children's magazine The Youth's Companion as part of the National Public-School Celebration of Columbus Day, a celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's discovery of America, conceived by James B. Upham.

Bellamy's original Pledge read, "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

The pledge was supposed to be quick and to the point. Bellamy designed it to be stated in 15 seconds. He had initially also considered using the words equality and fraternity but decided they were too controversial since many people opposed equal rights for women and blacks.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance

Wrong on so many levels.
:rofl:
