Jon Stewart fans - please explain to me
how the mean-spirited sophomoric stupidity I am watching about Obama's acceptance speech is so great for Dems.

This guy, who I must admit I have never watched before, comes across as a moronic prick. Yeah, this asshole is a big friend of the Democratic Party.

That is all.

3. You have hit the nail on the head. The Daily Show has become
about as dumbed down and nihilistic as SNL and South Park.

Note to Jon, just being an asshole isn't funny.

be able to say he's picking only on them.

9. I have to say the 'prison' bit with Anderson Cooper was compelling, unless
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 12:16 AM by Gabi Hayes
Cooper is as good an actor as Olivier, and I'm sure he isn't

he was genuinely wierded out; I thought maybe even a little bit frightened

i don't think people quite get that. Anyhow i love TDS and Colbert.

17. Point out any grammatical errors and I will be happy to correct them.
I knew what "sophomoric" meant thirty years ago, when I was in my teens.

30. Maybe you could have put a comma between "mean-spirited" and "sophomoric"?
They are both adjectives describing 'stupidity'. I seem to remember that they should be separated by commas.

Think that could be it?

31. I didn't agree with the OP
either but I bet you understood the OP even without the comma's. When your only
argument is to slam someones sentence structure, you've got a problem.

33. I was being sarcastical.
I tend to agree with you. Though, I have to say, that spelling errors in posts where people are denigrating the intelligence of others drives me crazy. THIS post isn't one of those, just pointing out one of the instances where I don't object to pointing out errors.

The Daily Show isn't an offshoot of the DNC and they have no obligation to pimp for the Democratic party.

22. I didn't pay attention to the part where he trashed the speech, which he did, but
the rest of the show was pretty fffing funny....the 'news team' running amok behind the scenes, with Lehrer, Anderson Cooper, among others, and embarrassing delegates, run of the mill dems, other 'news' geeks, and innocent bystanders

some of it was as funny as anything I've seen in a long time

27. He's a comedian. Comedians are supposed to find the line and cross it.
(Thank you George Carlin.)

Exactly because it's something people think "shouldn't be touched" is exactly WHY it should.

21. I posted earlier about how pissed I was at Jon tonite
I am a huge TDS fan, but I was really bothered by tonites episode. Yes, he is a comedian, but last nites speech was so huge, so special and so historic, I think it was so much beneath the show to make fun of any part of it.
He could have spent the entire show on making fun of John McSteed and Mrs. McPeel but chose not to do so.

28. Absolutely nothing wrong with making fun of dems
especially when they deserve it. This speech of BO's was so special and so historic that Jon should have showed some decorum. Its not like McSame didnt give him more than enough material yesterday. Jon has always showed a progressive slant, and its always seemed as though he hates this administration. We dont need anyone who is supposedly on OUR side making fun of the most important speech in our lifetime.
You are free to disagree. I feel strongly about this.

36. It's taped!
The show tapes in the afternoon. Much of the stuff that came out about the Beauty Queen II was brought out after the taping was over. I would rather watch this show than any thing on the "fun network". Give Jon some time he'll have some really good shows next week.

If you can't make fun of yourself who can you fun of. Go take a whole bottle of chill pills and leave Jon alone. He's hit the repukes with a lot of stronger criticism than some democrats have. If you don't like his show turn it off.

37. I don't watch TDS anymore. His insults to Obama go too far. Sorry I like skewering Rethugs
but I don't want to waste time watching some really mean-spirited attacks on Obama. Not everything is bad but they do pop up.
