This just does not make sense. Something isn't right about this.
Even if McCain, with few brain cells, was determined to pick her, there are too many that would stop him from doing so. This is some sort of crazy set-up. Either she is going to back out at some convenient point for them or everyone connected with his campaign is on the same trip! I don't think I am buying the last one. Something just doesn't sit right with this.

2. They don't want to pick someone who has a political future that would be destroyed
when McCain goes under in November.

3. he didn't want to pick her
He wanted Lieberman or Ridge. Somebody told him he should pick her.

I really doubt it was his idea.

5. I think it was his idea. I think they tried to talk him out of it and he insisted.
I think that McCain liked her looks the single time they met and he decided to ask her to marry, er, be his VP.

21. I had the thought today that maybe he's fantasizing that she's his new Cindy
Circa first marriage.

13. I think he was told that he would not get necessary fundie support if he picked Lieberman or Ridge
.. and I think after last night, they saw Pawlenty wasn't going to do a damn thing to help them.

4. well
maybe McCain will go to the convention, and when he is on the stage to accept the nomination, pig's blood will fall on him during his crowning moment and it will be a "PSYCH! Romney, get up here!" moment.

In all seriousness, what was he thinking? Definitely a "let me just throw something out there and see if it wins me an election" choice, not a governing choice. She possibly scares me even more than McCain.

6. It's calculated to get the conservative fundy vote. They're dying to vote for the fossil now.
Some on the radio today were so excited they were bouncing up and down in their chairs.

7. Its about firing up the base. The extreme right wants her and Jindal to lead their party
If McCain wins. He won't be in office but a few months. They'll force him to resign and Cheney will be pulling the strings with Palin as President. This is scary

9. From a GOP perspective
it is quite a clever choice. Assuming she is able to survive the campaign - a rather big if - this strengthens his chances. And even if they go down in defeat-they can always claim this was a "maverick" choice and a change.

10. The more I consider it...
I'm actually starting to wonder if there's anything to the idea that it's setting up a credible rationalization for election theft - in that, despite whatever early polling may show, a sudden swing for McCain on election day would be justified as "The Woman Vote" going for Palin.

Hope I'm wrong and just getting paranoid...

11. It makes perfect sense
Apparantly many people here simply assumed that the Evangelicals were on board with McSame. This was not the case until today. What Palin does is electrify the value voters. McSame needs their money, votes, and organizing skill if he is to have any shot.

I've been predicting this for weeks. Go ahead, research my posts.

16. It wasn't his idea. According to Randi (who does her homework)
he really wanted Holy Joe to be his running mate. The lobbyists/advisors/handlers who are pulling the strings said no and THEY chose her.

He would NEVER have come up with this himself. I get the feeling that he saw her and said to his horndog self that he could stand to look at that for a few years. . .

(Did I mention that he neither likes nor respects women?)

18. I think he was hoping for Hill voters AND the fundies
But it won't work. Maybe he'll get her to bow out and then he can say
"well, we tried" with getting a woman VP and then he'll pick a Romney type.

19. Someone else said and I agree she deminishes obama because
her lack of experience is being compared to his... and he is the Presidential candidate and should be compared to McCain. That's what I think it is about. At least one of the angles the GOP will push.
