I got home from the Giant game (left early 4th quarter with Giants ahead 19-0) in time to catch Obama's entire speech (and most of the preceding video I believe). I thought his speech was one of the best I have ever heard. It was different from a lot of his earlier speeches that dealt in general terms with broad principles in that it dealt specifically with his plans for America both domestically and in the area of foreign policy and he took on McCain directly and in strong terms.
There was a little bit of JFK, of Reagan, of Bill Clinton and Martin Luthor King mixed in - with the challenge to become energy independent echoing JFK's challenge to go to the moon, with the references to that guiding principles of our nation and looking forward echoing Reagan's shiny city on the hill and his promise to lift up and offer hope to suffering Americans echoing Bill Clinton's calls for hope.
Caught only a few comments before coming on line here and remember best Republican David Gergen's comments - it was a "symphony".
