They may try to steal it again
What do you think the response will be if they do steal this election? I know there was a little uproar after that mess in Ohio in 2004 but I have a feeling the GOP is underestimating the enthusiasm of all people (not just the young people). The economy has quite a few Americans on edge, people are tired of struggling. This isn't just about electing the first African American. I think young people are starting to put two and two together especially after McCain made that comment about the draft. I just hope that Obama and his people realize what the GOP has done during the last two elections. It seems that having a bunch of lawyers on the ground isn't cutting it. I hope Obama has a game plan in place or we could be looking at something nasty come November.

1. they can only stal it if it's close. that's why I think they are showing close poll numbers
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 09:08 AM by NightWatcher
when it's a 3 to 1 blowout, they wont be able to steal it. The MSM and polling companies are trying to lay the groundwork for them to do so.

We've got to work real hard to make sure it's not even close.

5. This is why I'm thinking about this now
The MSM touting these close polls and all. I think the MSM is gearing up for social uproar so that they will have a juicy story for several weeks after the election. They are going to pin the uproar on the young people and African Americans, I can see it now. I'm going to do all I can in part of the woods to make sure that does not happen. I live in Washington state so the only race I'm concern about is the Governor race.

15. and I not sure we should trust those corporate pollsters..

Easy enough to cook the numbers. Show the race it close. Toss in a Bradley affect meme and... screw us.

I hope the Obama and Dean teams have a game plan.

10. No absentee vote is any safer than any other vote.
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 09:16 AM by UnitedVoters

You throw your vote into some mailbox and HOPE it gets there and is counted. Many absentee and mail-in votes are NOT counted, and you'll NEVER KNOW.

16. Sounds Good, But Here In MY County... ONCE AGAIN, We Were Told THIS A.M.
that we are having PROBLEMS with "Absentee Ballots" and some sort of glitch! I vote absentee, but we had problems with ABSENTEE BALLOTS in 2006 too!

And Vern Buchanan was DECLARED the winner! I just can't take this shit anymore, and IF McLoonery is "declared" the winner, if this country doesn't RISE UP in overwhelming DISGUST & ANGER, WE deserve WHAT WE GET. My problem with that is that those of us who actually are the junkies will STILL be here "blogging" and wringing out hands and will have to LIVE WITH THE SHIT AGAIN!

Yes, I live in FLORIDA and one of the WORST counties in this state, and STILL since 2000 we have voting problems!! A DISGRACE! My daughter called the local Democratic Headquarters the other day and wanted to know what kind of "actions" they are planning, what kind of rallies they intend to create, and THEY asked her what she suggested. She said she wanted to organize people hitting the streets to get the message out and they TOLD her she could come down and make phone calls and then stand on street corners holding up signs!

It's so APATHETIC and I'm at a loss for words!!!

14. Exactly
I think the media is gearing up for social disorder in this country in hopes of getting a juicy story. We all know they will blame it on young voters and African Americans in order to get emotions going.

I think they will go back to their busy lives & say, "Oh well, next time," just like they did last time & the time before.

I hope I'm wrong!

trail. Diebold can do the latter easily. Make noise. Vote absentee and get as many people as you can to do the same. We cannot just stand by again.

21. John Pilger says that voter suppression is more of a threat than tampering
The pubbies will do all they can to disenfranchise likely Democratic voters, particularly African-Americans. The Obama campaign needs to have some method in place (if they haven't already) of allowing people to check in advance that they're actually eligible to vote and haven't been scrubbed from the voter rolls because they happen to have the same name as a convicted felon, or whatever other bullshit excuses they use. And if they have, they need to challenge every case.

20. Purging voters from the rolls...
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 09:22 AM by Eric J in MN
...because there is a different address in another state database (assume the DMV database is always right and so the voter registration database must be wrong if there is a conflict and the voter should be purged from the rolls.)

Greg Palast writes:

In swing-state Colorado, the Republican Secretary of State conducted the biggest purge of voters in history, dumping a fifth of all registrations. Guess their color.

In swing-state Florida, the state is refusing to accept about 85,000 new registrations from voter drives – overwhelming Black voters.

In swing state New Mexico, HALF of the Democrats of Mora, a dirt poor and overwhelmingly Hispanic county, found their registrations disappeared this year, courtesy of a Republican voting contractor.

In swing states Ohio and Nevada, new federal law is knocking out tens of thousands of voters who lost their homes to foreclosure.

22. More Democratic Secretaries of State this time around.
Especially in Ohio, where the people who stole the last election have been shown the door. This is something to keep an eye on - but the scandal isn't so much with "vote-flipping" and machines, though that matters too, but in making sure that everybody who should be able to vote is allowed to cast a vote. The GOP *will* be challenging voters at the polls, and that needs to be put to a stop.

My investigations partner spoke directly to Barack Obama about it. (When your partner is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., candidates take your phone call.) The cool, cool Senator Obama told Kennedy he was “concerned” about the integrity of the vote in the Southwest in particular.

He’s concerned. I’m sweating.

It’s time SOMEBODY raised the alarm about these missing voters; not to save Obama’s candidacy – journalists should stay the heck away from partisan endorsements - but raise the alarm to save our sick democracy.
